The invention provides techniques for reducing or altering the magnetic noise of an AC rotary electric machine. A magnetic noise reducing harmonic current of order n, whose frequency is n times the frequency of the fundamental frequency component of a polyphase AC current fed to an armature of a polyphase AC rotary electric machine, is superimposed on the polyphase AC current, thereby reducing or altering a harmonic component having a frequency (n&#x2212;1) times the frequency of the fundamental frequency component and occurring due to a radial magnetic excitation force acting radially on an iron core of the AC rotary electric machine. Magnetic noise is caused by a vibration whose energy is the sum of the circumferential and radial vibrations of the iron core occurring due to the magnetomotive force of the rotor, and altering the radial vibration is particularly effective in altering the magnetic noise; as the harmonic component of the radially acting magnetic excitation force, occurring due to harmonic components having frequencies 3, 5, 7, and 13 times the fundamental frequency, has a frequency 6 or 12 times the fundamental frequency, the magnetomotive force of the rotor can be effectively reduced or altered when a current having a frequency 7 or 13 times the fundamental frequency is superimposed on the stator current.

A first layer coil is wound around the surface of a tooth in a direction advancing from a proximal end portion to a distal end portion of this tooth. A second layer coil is wound on the first layer coil in a direction advancing from the distal end portion to the proximal end portion of the tooth coil. Lead wires extend outward in the radial direction from a winding start end of the first layer coil and a winding terminal end of the second layer coil. Respective tooth coils of the same phase are serially connected to arrange three phase windings. A crossover bus bar group is accommodated in a space having a square cross section defined by a core back and a coil end of the tooth coil.

A concentrated winding stator coil of a proximal end extraction type two-layer winding arrangement includes numerous tooth coils which are connected in series to arrange serial coil units and also connected in parallel as pairs arranging respective phase windings. A generator-motor for a vehicle includes a rotor having a rotor core and a plurality of permanent magnets and a stator having a stator core and an armature winding. The rotor core has a plurality of axially extending through-holes in a circumferential direction thereof to accommodate the permanent magnets and to increase circumferential magnetic reluctance thereof to form a plurality of auxiliary pole portions disposed between the through holes. The stator core has a plurality of teeth radially extending at equal intervals in a circumferential direction to face the rotor core. Each of auxiliary pole has a circumferential width that is 30%-55% of a circumferential width of each tooth. The minimum torque of the generator motor can be increased while torque ripple is reduced.

The thickness of the annular wall is smaller than the thickness of the central mount, the outer periphery of the disk plate has a serrated surface for mechanical connection with an cooling fin of the alternator, and the insulating member is composed of resinous material and inorganic filler material to provide residual internal pressure higher than the atmospheric pressure.
