The present invention provides methods and apparatuses for computer system security. According to certain aspects, embodiments of the invention comprise a portable storage device that, when attached, 'unlocks' a computer system, such as a desktop, laptop, tablet computer running a conventional operating system such as Windows, thereby creating added security. More particularly, embodiments of the invention use a standard USB memory stick as an 'ignition key' to unlock and operate a PC, tablet or other computer system. The ignition key can be required to boot the computer, utilize peripheral devices, ports, network connections, a keyboard and/or a mouse of the computer system, and limit access to certain parts of computer. According to further aspects, in these and other embodiments, the invention is implemented using a modified BIOS that prevents a computer from fully booting into an operational state until verifying the presence of, and information stored on the &#x201c;ignition key&#x201d; connected to the computer.

Method and apparatus for securing user operation of and access to a computer system

The present embodiments relate to methods and apparatuses for side-band management of security for server computers. According to certain aspects, such management is directed to the security of data that is stored under the local control of the server, as well as data that flows through the network ports of the server. Such locally stored data is secured by encryption, and the encryption keys are managed by a management entity that is separate from the server. The management entity can also manage the security of network data flowing through the server using its own configuration of network security applications such as firewalls, monitors and filters.

Method and apparatus for selectively snooping and capturing data for secure computer interfaces

According to certain general aspects, the present embodiments relate to providing a secure computer architecture in which a single computer is capable of simultaneously executing two operating systems. According to certain additional aspects, the two operating systems can have different security profiles and capabilities. According to still further aspects, the secure computer architecture further provides secure video conferencing capabilities, network activity monitoring and high performance computer graphics.

The present invention relates to methods and apparatuses for establishing a 'root-of-trust' path for a computing system. In embodiments, a secure computer system having such a root-of-trust path is implemented by a secure processor in conjunction with a host processor. The secure processor becomes the root-of-trust, providing authenticated and encrypted BIOS boot code for the host processor without the need to modify the host processor's operating system. In one embodiment, the establishment of a root-of-trust is implemented by the secure processor presenting itself to the host processor as an on-board BIOS flash device and the secure processor maintaining the integrity of the BIOS boot code. In additional or alternative embodiments, the establishment of the root-of-trust includes use of a direct communications channel and protocol between the host and secure processors.
