An autoinjector (') for expelling a single dose of a drug from a held cartridge () comprising a piston (). The autoinjector includes a needle shield (&#x2032;) axially movable from an initial extended position via a triggering position to a trigger release position. The needle shield (&#x2032;) is operatively coupled to a plunger release element () cooperating with a plunger () to define a releasable retaining mechanism that retains the plunger release element () threadedly engaged with a base thread component () in a predefined relative rotational and axial position and against rotational bias provided by an actuator (). The needle shield (&#x2032;) is configured for operating the retaining mechanism to release the retaining of the plunger release element () and the base thread component () from the predefined relative rotational and axial position upon the needle shield (&#x2032;) being moved into the trigger release position.

Method of manufacturing one of a range of autoinjectors

A needle unit () comprising: a needle hub () comprising a needle () and a needle shield (), wherein the needle hub () and the needle shield () are arranged to form a needle unit () where the needle hub is arranged displaceably inside the needle shield such that the needle hub is displaceable along an axis which is parallel with the longitudinal axis of the needle () between a shielded position and an exposed position. An autoinjector () for expelling a single dose of drug from a drug cartridge () including a piston (), the autoinjector including: a base (), a needle () that is fixedly mounted relative to the base (), a plunger () adapted for cooperation with the piston (), an actuating spring () provided as a helical compression spring arranged to act on the plunger () by exerting an axial force on the plunger to drive the piston () distally, and a needle shield () axially movable relative to the base () between an extended position and a collapsed position. The autoinjector defines a lock () that is released when the needle shield () is moved from the extended position to the collapsed position. The lock () releases to enable relative rotation between plunger thread () and base thread () causing release of the plunger () from the initial axial position and expelling the dose of the drug.

An injection device for expelling a dose of drug from a held cartridge () is described. A needle shield () is axially movable relative to a base () between a proximal collapsed position and a distal extended position. A needle shield lock comprises a deflectable lock element () operable to prevent the needle shield () from being moved towards the proximal collapsed position. A lock activator () associated with a plunger () exerts an activation force on the deflectable lock element when the plunger assumes a final position. A biasing means () is arranged to act between the lock activator () and the deflectable lock element (), the biasing means () being configured to resiliency transfer the activation force from the lock activator () to the deflectable lock element () to enable the needle shield () to become locked in the distal extended position but only when the plunger () assumes the final position.
