An optical element includes a three-dimensional structure having a curved surface; and a retardation plate bent along the curved surface. The retardation plate includes a transparent substrate and a liquid crystal layer formed over the transparent substrate. The retardation plate has a slow axis and a fast axis. A glass-transition temperature, Tgne, in a slow axis direction of the retardation plate is higher than a glass-transition temperature, Tgno, in a fast axis direction of the retardation plate.

Optical element and method for manufacturing the same

An optical filter is provided with a structure that contains a green coloring matter and a black coloring matter and satisfies the following requirements (i) and (ii). Further a device is provided with such an optical filter. (i) An average transmittance of light in the wavelength range of 400 to 730 nm is 2% or less. (ii) A continuous 50 nm wavelength range where an average transmittance is 80% or more exists in the wavelength range of 800 to 1000 nm.

Optical filter and device using the same

An optical device has a visible light transmittance that decreases from a central part thereof towards a peripheral part thereof. The optical device includes a visible light absorbing part, made of a material that absorbs at least a part of visible light, and having a thickness that increases from a central part thereof towards a peripheral part thereof, and a visible light transmitting part, made of a material that transmits the visible light, and is stacked on the visible light absorbing part. A relationship T420/T360&#x3e;=3 is satisfied, where T420 denotes a transmittance of light having a wavelength of 420 nm, and T360 denotes a transmittance of light having a wavelength of 360 nm.

An optical element in which transmittance of light monotonically decreases from a center portion toward a peripheral portion, the optical element includes an absorbing material portion made of a material that absorbs a part of light and formed such that its thickness monotonically increases from the center portion toward the peripheral portion; and a transparent material portion made of a material that transmits light and is stacked on the absorbing material portion, a total thickness of the absorbing material portion and the transparent material portion being substantially constant.
