The invention described relates to a polyolefin blend composition suitable for spunbond fiber or filament compositions, and to fabric compositions and composite constructions therefrom, said blend comprising a) from 60-98 wt % of at least one random propylene copolymer having a comonomer content of from 8 to 25 wt % and a crystalline melting point (Tm) as determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) of from about 40&#xb0; C. to about 110&#xb0; C.; and b) from 2-40 wt % of at least one substantially isotactic polypropylene homopolymer or copolymer comprising one or more Cand/or C-Ccomonomer, having a crystalline melting point (Tm) as determined by DSC greater than or equal to 120&#xb0; C. The blends of the present invention typically have a melt flow rate (MFR) of from 100 g/10 min to about 500 g/10 min.

Spunbond fibers and fabrics from polyolefin blends

A method for forming a fiber, the method comprising charging to a reactive extruder a first polymer and a second polymer to form an initial blend, where the first polymer is a propylene-based elastomer including up to 35% by weight ethylene-derived units and a heat of fusion, as determined according to DSC procedures according to ASTM E-793, of less than 80 J/g and a melt temperature of less than 110&#xb0; C., where the second polymer is a propylene-based polymer having a melt temperature in excess of 110&#xb0; C. and a heat of fusion in excess of 80 J/g, and introducing the reactive blend to a spinneret to form a fiber or extruding the reacted blend through a plurality of die capillaries to form molten threads or filaments which are attenuated in a gas stream to form meltblown fibers.

Process for forming polymer blends

This invention relates to a series of novel late transition metal catalysts for olefin oligomerization, the catalysts demonstrating high activity and selectivity for linear &#x3b1;-olefins. The catalysts contain a Group-8, -9, or -10 transition metal, M, excluding palladium; an ancillary ligand comprising: a terminal amine comprising two independently selected hydrocarbyl radicals, Rand R; a terminal phosphine comprising two independently selected hydrocarbyl radicals, Rand R; and a hydrocarbyl bridge, Y, comprising a backbone wherein the hydrocarbyl bridge connects between the terminal amine and the terminal phosphine and wherein the backbone comprises a chain that is four or more carbon atoms long; and an abstractable ligand, X. For example this invention relates to a composition of matter with the following formula: wherein M, R, R, R, and R, Y, and X are as defined above.

Late transition metal catalysts for olefin oligomerizations

A non-woven fabric made from a composition prepared by combining a first propylene-based polymer blend, where the first polymer blend is prepared by combining a propylene-based elastomer with a propylene-based thermoplastic resin and where the first blend has an MFR (ASTM D-1238 2.16 kg @ 230&#xb0; C.) equal to or less than 50 dg/min, with a second propylene-based polymer blend, where the second polymer blend is prepared by combining a propylene-based elastomer with a propylene-based thermoplastic resin and where said second blend has an MFR (ASTM D-1238 2.16 kg @ 230&#xb0; C.) greater than 50 dg/min, where the propylene-based elastomers comprise from about 5% to 35% by weight units derived from ethylene or non-propylene alpha-olefin and have a heat of fusion, as determined by DSC, of less than 80 J/g, and where the propylene-based thermoplastic resins have a heat of fusion, as determined by DSC, equal to or greater than 80 J/g.

Fibers and non-wovens prepared with propylene-based elastomers

A series of novel late transition metal catalysts for olefin oligomerization have been invented. The catalysts demonstrate high activity and selectivity for linear &#x3b1;-olefins.

A nonwoven fabric made from a composition comprising (a) a propylene-based elastomer characterized by including from about 5% to about 35% by weight units deriving from alpha-olefin and a heat of fusion, as determined by DSC, of less than 80 J/g, (b) a propylene-based thermoplastic polymer characterized by an MFR (ASTM D-1238 2.16 kg @ 230&#xb0; C.) of from about 3 to about 300 dg/min, and a heat of fusion, as determined by DSC, of greater than 80 J/g, and (c) a feel modifier selected from the group consisting of (i) a high-MFR thermoplastic resin having an MFR (ASTM D-1238 2.16 kg @ 230&#xb0; C.) in excess of 400 dg/min, (ii) a hydrocarbon resin, (iii) a polyolefin wax, (iv) a functionalized hydrocarbon resin, (v) a functionalized polyolefin, and (vi) a combination of two or more of the foregoing feel modifiers, and (d) optionally a slip aid.

A nonwoven fabric and disposable articles comprising the same are provided. The nonwoven fabric can include one or more facing layers thermally bonded to one or more inner layers. The facing layers are inelastic or partially elastic nonwoven webs comprising one or more propylene-based polymers. The facing layer has a permanent set above 30%. The inner layers are elastic nonwoven webs comprising one or more propylene-based polymers and one or more slip agents. The inner layer has a permanent set below 28%, and the one or more propylene-based polymers have (i) 60 wt % or more units derived from propylene, (ii) isotactically arranged propylene derived sequences, and (iii) a heat of fusion less than 45 J/g.

Elastomeric nonwovens

As series of novel late transition metal catalysts for olefin oligomerization have been invented. The catalyst system includes a Group 8, 9 or 10 transition metal and an activator. The catalysts demonstrate high activity and selectivity for linear &#x3b1;-olefins. Preferably this invention relates to a catalyst system comprising the reaction product of: (a) an activator selected from the group consisting of alumoxane, aluminum alkyl, alkyl aluminum halide, alkylaluminum alkoxide, discrete ionic activator, and Lewis acid; and (b) a catalyst precursor wherein the catalyst precursor has the following formula: wherein (i) M is a Group-8, -9 , or -10 transition metal; (ii) N is nitrogen (iii) P is phosphorus; (iv) R, R, R, and Rare independently hydrocarbyl radicals; (v) Y is a hydrocarbyl bridge comprising a backbone wherein the backbone comprises a chain that is four or more carbon atoms long; (vi) X are independently abstractable ligands.

Nonwoven fabrics and methods for making the same are described, wherein the fabrics comprise two or more propylene-based elastomers in combination with one or more propylene-based thermoplastic polymers. Specifically, the first propylene-based elastomer comprises at least 7% by weight ethylene or non-propylene alpha-olefin units, the second propylene-based elastomer comprises less than 7% by weight ethylene or non-propylene alpha-olefin units, the first and second propylene-based elastomers each have a heat of fusion less than 80 J/g, and the propylene-based thermoplastic polymer has a heat of fusion greater than 80 J/g.
