A computer-implemented method, according to one embodiment, includes: determining, for each pair of HCI systems where each pair includes a first HCI system coupled to another HCI system, a federation relationship setting that corresponds to each pair. The federation relationship settings are used to control a flow of data, as well as to control a flow of workload scheduling, between the first HCI system and the other HCI systems in the respective pairs. Moreover, determining a federation relationship setting that corresponds to a pair includes: determining whether a risk score which corresponds to the pair is outside a predetermined range. In response to determining that the risk score is outside the predetermined range, a restrictive federation relationship setting is assigned to the pair, and in response to determining that the risk score is not outside the predetermined range, a permissive federation relationship setting is assigned to the pair.

Utilizing federation relationship settings among different systems

A data storage system has multiple tiers of data storage including an upper tier having a lower access latency and a lower tier having a higher access latency. A storage controller of the data storage system receives, via an interface, an access request of a workload for a target file system object, where the target file system object has an associated temperature. In response to the access request for the target file system object, the storage controller accesses the target file system object in the data storage and conditions update of the associated temperature of the target file system object based on at least one of a set including the interface and the workload. The storage controller distributes a collection of file system objects including the target file system object among the multiple tiers based on respective heats of file system objects in the collection.

Workload and interface cognizant heat-tiered storage

A first set of applications that require a higher performance in comparison to a second set of applications are identified, and a first set of filesets corresponding to the first set of applications are identified. In response to a copy on write based snapshot operation with respect to the first set of filesets, blocks that are overwritten are stored in a first storage device that is of a higher performance in comparison to a second storage device.

Optimization of file system snapshot performance in hybrid storage deployments

A processor may identify a first directory in the storage system. The first directory may include one or more subdirectories in one or more levels under the first directory. The one or more subdirectories may include a second directory that has includes one or more objects. The first directory may be associated with a first inode, and the second directory may be associated with a second inode. The processor may perform a stat call on the second directory to determine metadata attributes for the one or more objects that are stored in the second directory. The metadata attributes for the one or more objects may be stored in the second inode. The processor may add the metadata attributes for the one or more objects to the first inode.

Unified file and object storage architecture for clustered file systems

A processor may identify a first directory in the UFO storage system. The first directory may include one or more subdirectories in one or more levels under the first directory. The one or more subdirectories may include a second directory that has includes one or more objects. The first directory may be associated with a first inode, and the second directory may be associated with a second inode. The processor may perform a stat call on the second directory to determine metadata attributes for the one or more objects that are stored in the second directory. A computer-implemented method, according to one embodiment, includes: sending management data to a designated common cell in a namespace of a central storage location from one or more remote storage locations. The management data corresponds to object data stored at the one or more remote storage locations. the object data stored at each of the one or more remote storage locations is further transferred to a respective cell in the namespace of the central storage location. Moreover, a modified consistency hashing algorithm configuration is implemented. The modified consistency hashing algorithm configuration routes updates of existing object data in the one or more remote storage locations to the respective cells in the central storage location. Consistent hashing configurations supporting multi-site replication

Embodiments for managing data storage by one or more processors are described. An object is created with deduplicated content. A lookup is created, which includes a name of the object and at least one of an address location of the deduplicated content and a byte range of the deduplicated content. The object and the lookup are transferred from a first computing system to a second computing system.

Methods and systems for improving efficiency in cloud-as-backup tier

A computer-implemented method, according to one embodiment, includes: dividing a namespace in a central storage location into more than one cell. A first of the more than one cell is a common cell, which is configured to store management data received from remote storage locations coupled to the central storage location. Each of the remaining cells are configured to store object data received from a respective one of the remote storage locations. Management data received from the remote storage locations is stored in the common cell of the central storage location. Object data is also received, where the object data corresponds to the management data received from the remote storage locations. Furthermore, the received object data is stored in the respective cells of the central storage location. An embodiment of the invention may include a method, computer program product and computer system for data recovery for use with a computing device. The embodiment may determine an amount of time to transfer a first file from a first location, on a first device, to a second location, on a second device. The embodiment may include receiving historical operational information associated with the first device and the second device. The embodiment may create a transfer model correlating the amount of time to transfer the first file with the historical operational information associated with each device. The embodiment may determine an estimated amount of time to transfer a second file based on the transfer model and a current operational information about each device. The embodiment may determine whether the estimated amount of time to transfer a second file is above a first threshold amount.

Data protection and recovery system

A computer-implemented method, according to one embodiment, includes: creating a namespace in a central storage location, and dividing the namespace into more than one cell. A first cell is a common cell configured to store management data received from remote storage locations coupled to the central storage location. Each of the remaining cells are configured to store object data received from a respective one of the remote storage locations. The computer-implemented method further includes: receiving management data from the remote storage locations, storing the received management data in the common cell of the central storage location, receiving object data corresponding to the management data received from the remote storage locations, and storing the received object data in the respective cells of the central storage location. The management data corresponds to object data stored in the remote storage locations. Other systems, methods, and computer program products are described in additional embodiments.

A method of and system for managing storage of an object for an object store is disclosed. The method and system may establish the object store. The object store may be configured to be used for a user for a workload-type for a set of objects. The method and system may provide, for the user for the workload-type, an object store quota. The method and system may provide, for the user for the workload-type, a meta-data quota. The method and system may process, consistent with both the object store quota and the meta-data quota, the set of objects.
