A method and system for modulating a drain supply voltage of a power amplifier are disclosed. A low pass envelope of a dual band modulated signal input to the power amplification system is determined. The determined low pass envelope is amplified. A drain supply of the power amplifier is modulated based on the amplified determined low pass envelope.

Dual-band signal transmission

Embodiments of a Doherty power amplifier that maintain efficiency over a large operating average power range are disclosed. In one embodiment, the Doherty power amplifier includes reconfigurable main and auxiliary output matching networks and a fixed combining network. The reconfigurable main and auxiliary output matching networks can be reconfigured such that together the reconfigurable main output matching network, the reconfigurable auxiliary output matching network, and the fixed combining network provide proper load modulation for multiple different back-off power levels. As a result, the Doherty power amplifier maintains high efficiency over an extended back-off power level range.

Efficient power amplification over large operating average power range

A method, system and apparatus for modelling a power amplifier and pre-distorter fed by one of a wideband signal and an intra-band carrier aggregated signal are disclosed. According to one aspect, a method includes receiving the one of the wideband signal and the intra-band carrier aggregated signal and generating a discrete base band equivalent, BBE, Volterra series based on the received signal, where the series has distortion products grouped according to determined shared kernels. The shared kernels are determined based on a transformation of a real-valued continuous-time pass band Volterra series without pruning of kernels.

Methods, systems and apparatus for modelling a power amplifier and pre-distorter fed by a multi-band signal are disclosed. According to one aspect, a method includes receiving a multi-band signal and generating a discrete base band equivalent, BBE, Volterra series based on the received multi-band signal, where the series has distortion products grouped according to determined shared kernels. The shared kernels are determined based on a transformation of a real-valued continuous-time pass band Volterra series without pruning of kernels.

The present disclosure advantageously provides methods and systems for crest factor reduction of multi-standard carrier aggregated signals. In one embodiment, a method of providing crest factor reduction for a carrier aggregated signal is provided. In one embodiment, the method comprises estimating a peak of a carrier aggregated signal based on a summation of instantaneous amplitudes of baseband representations of a number of component carriers of the carrier aggregated signal. The number of component carriers of the carrier aggregated signal is greater than or equal to 2. The method further comprises clipping the baseband representations of the component carriers if the estimated peak of the carrier aggregated signal is greater than a predefined clipping threshold.

Crest factor reduction of carrier aggregated signals

A method, system and circuit for crest factor reduction of inter-band multi-standard carrier aggregated signals are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method includes calculating the amplitude of each of the plurality of carrier signals of the inter-band carrier aggregated signals. An estimate of an envelope of a combination of the carrier signals is produced based on a sum of the calculated amplitudes of the plurality of carrier signals. The estimate of the envelope of the combination of the carrier signals is compared to a clipping threshold to determine whether to clip each of the plurality of carrier signals.

Crest factor reduction of inter-band carrier aggregated signals

A method and power amplification system for achieving digital pre-distortion of wideband, power amplifiers with reduced observation bandwidth are disclosed. A digital pre-distorter system uses a reduced transmitter observation receiver bandwidth combined with a high transmit path sampling rate to linearize a power amplifier across a broad spectrum that may extend to beyond about five times a bandwidth of a signal input to the system.

Digital predistortion of wideband power amplifiers with reduced observation bandwidth

A method and system for designing and implementing a reconfigurable Doherty amplifier system are disclosed. In one embodiment, a design method includes determining, using a processor, a first set of ABCD transmission parameters of a first output compensation network in a main path of a Doherty amplifier for the case where an auxiliary amplifier of the Doherty amplifier is off. The method further includes determining, using a processor, a second set of ABCD transmission parameters of a second output compensation network in an auxiliary path of the Doherty amplifier based on the first set of ABCD transmission parameters.

Disclosed is a behavioral model for wide-band radio frequency transmitters. Also disclosed are various implementation of the behavioral model for purpose of baseband predistortion of dynamic nonlinear systems, such as wideband wireless transmitters and power amplifiers. In one example embodiment, a LBG behavioral model comprises two non-linear cascading modules: a dynamic weak nonlinear (DWNL) module, which models dynamic week nonlinearities of the system, and a static strong nonlinear (SSNL) module, which models static strong nonlinearities of the system. In one example embodiment, a forward LBG model includes DWNL module followed by the SSNL module. In another example embodiment, a reverse LBG model includes SSNL module followed by DWNL module.
