A vehicle light assembly comprising a light chamber secured to a vehicle member. The chamber includes a partially transmissive lens and an interior. The interior includes a plurality of isotropically luminant surfaces and a substantially reflective surface. Further, the vehicle light assembly includes a light source arranged within the light chamber, and the light source is substantially oriented to emanate light that initially strikes the substantially reflective surface, propagates within the chamber along the isotropically luminant surfaces, and exits the chamber through the lens.

Vehicle light assembly with photon recycling

A vehicle side marker is provided herein. The side marker may include a translucent lens having a texture thereon. A substrate may be attached to the lens. A first photoluminescent structure and a second photoluminescent structure are disposed between an exterior surface of the lens and the substrate. The first and second photoluminescent structures are configured to luminesce in response to excitation by a light source. The first photoluminescent structure may include a long persistent photoluminescent material therein.

Vehicle illumination assembly

A vehicle lighting assembly that comprises: a single lens having a first and a second plurality of near-field lens elements, and an exit surface; and a first and a second LED source that directs light through the respective first and second plurality of lens elements. The first and the second plurality of lens elements are configured to transmit light in a respective spread pattern and a high-intensity pattern through the exit surface. The assemblies can be configured such that the spread pattern and the high-intensity pattern collectively meet the low beam headlight requirements set forth in any current global vehicular lighting regulation, e.g., the current U.S. NHTSA Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108.

Dual beam pattern vehicular lighting assembly

An illumination apparatus for a vehicle is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a lighting device disposed on the vehicle. At least one detection sensor is configured to detect a proximity of an occupant and a controller is configured to identify an approach and a departure of the occupant. The controller is configured to control the lighting device to output a first emission of light in response to the approach and a second emission in response to the departure.

A vehicle spot or floodlight system includes a vehicle rear-mounted light source such as a backup light array configured to emit light at a first intensity and at another intensity that is different from the first intensity. Emission of light at the another intensity is caused by an actuator operatively associated with the rear-mounted light source. A controller selectively allows the actuator to cause the emission at the another intensity. The controller allows the actuator to cause the emission of light at the another intensity only on receiving a signal indicating that the vehicle transmission is in a park or on receiving a signal indicating that the vehicle ignition is set on run, accessory, or off. The controller resets the actuator to off after a predefined time period when the ignition system is set on accessory or off, or when the transmission is placed in drive.

Vehicle rear illumination system

A vehicle lighting system is provided herein and includes light-producing assemblies, each coupled to a body portion of a vehicle. At least one light-sensing device is included for sensing ambient light levels. A controller is configured to selectively activate each of the light-producing assemblies at a variable intensity as a function of a sensed ambient light level and/or a determined direction of the ambient light.

Exterior light system for a vehicle

A camouflaged vehicle includes a vehicle having lighting equipment and a plurality of windows, a camouflage positioned over an exterior of the vehicle and allowing visibility through at least a portion of the plurality of windows, and additional lighting equipment supported by said vehicle outside of said camouflage. At least a portion of the lighting equipment may be visible through the camouflage. A control module for controlling the lighting equipment is provided and the additional lighting equipment is controlled by the control module in parallel with the lighting equipment, and sensors, positioned between the control module and the lighting equipment, sense the application of power and generate additional control signals to operate the additional lighting equipment. The additional lighting equipment may include a minimum number of lamps, reflective devices and associated equipment required to satisfy the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108.

Camouflaged vehicle having additional lighting equipment

An illumination apparatus for a vehicle is disclosed. The apparatus comprises at least one luminescent portion disposed in a cavity formed by a handle portion of a closure of the vehicle. The apparatus further comprises a panel disposed in the cavity comprising a reflective surface. The panel is configured to receive light and reflect a first light portion of the environmental light toward the luminescent portion charging a persistent luminescent material of the luminescent portion.

A vehicle lighting system is provided herein and includes a window of a vehicle. A light-producing assembly is coupled to the window and includes a photoluminescent member configured to luminesce in response to excitation light provided by a light source and a decorative member for concealing the photoluminescent member, wherein the photoluminescent member luminesces to accentuate an indicium defined by the decorative member.

Window lighting system of a vehicle

A headlight assembly including a plurality of low-beam modules and a plurality of high-beam modules are enclosed in a housing. The low-beam modules include a top reflector disposed above a low-beam LED light source that projects a height limited first beam of light through the low-beam lens. The high-beam modules include a bottom reflector disposed below a high-beam LED light source that projects a second beam of light through a high-beam lens above the first beam of light. Each module has an aspect ratio of 2:1 with the height of the lens being twice the width of the lens.

A headlight assembly including an upper static bending light and a lower static bending light. The upper and lower static bending lights are provided on an inner wall of a headlight assembly that defines an opening. The inner wall of the assembly is inboard of the high-beam headlights. The upper and lower static bending lights are controlled by a controller that responds to inputs corresponding to the speed of the vehicle, angle of the steering wheel, and actuation of a turn signal actuator.

A lamp assembly is provided for installation in an opening of a vehicle body. The lamp assembly includes a lamp container having first and second sides, each of the first and second sides integrally including first and second stops, and at least one clip assembly including a clip, a threaded bolt, and a nut. The clip has a connecting wall with respective first and second side walls extending from the connecting wall, and first and second tabs extending inwardly respectively from the first and second side walls, the threaded bolt being inserted through an opening in the connecting wall of the clip, and the nut being threaded onto the bolt. When the lamp assembly is in a pre-compressed position, the nut is spaced away from the stops, and, when the lamp assembly is in a compressed position, at least one of the nut and the connecting wall contacts the stops.

A headlamp aimer box includes a housing defining an opening and a tunnel, a window disposed within the opening, and a whiteboard disposed at one end of the tunnel. The box further includes a mirror disposed within the tunnel. The mirror redirects a beam passing through the window from a headlamp toward the whiteboard. A length of the tunnel is such that light patterns directed by facets of the headlamp sufficiently cross a median line associated with the headlamp to form a developed beam on the whiteboard.

A method for aiming headlamps on a vehicle achieves a reduced variation in beam heights without making any changes to existing test equipment. A cutoff height of a first headlamp is measured. The first headlamp is adjusted until a first measured cutoff height is within a predetermined range centered on a predetermined fixed height. A cutoff height of a second headlamp is measured. The second headlamp is adjusted until a second measured cutoff height is within the predetermined range centered on the first measured cutoff height.
