A system for distributing digital content over a computer network (e.g., the Internet) uses certificates to establish a trust relationship between a content provider and a display device. The certificates identify the display device and the content provider as well as unique characteristics of the distribution. For example, the content provider may be a book publisher and the display device may be a printer/binder.

Digital content distribution systems

A method and system for securely transferring data between an application server and an agent of the application server through a non-secure node. First, a session key between the agent and the application server is established by utilizing a public key of the application server that is embedded in the code of the agent. Next, an end-to-end secure connection is established between the agent and the application server by using the session key and by establishing a communication link between the application server and the non-secure node by using a relay module.

Secure data transfer method and system

A method of allowing a secure and transparent communication between a user device and servers of a data access network system via a firewall and a gateway is described. The method includes the step of designating a plurality of ports in the firewall for the gateway, each corresponding to one of a number of ports in the gateway. Each of the gateway ports can be dynamically assigned to correspond to the port of one of the servers. The method also includes a step of proxifying an object reference used in a user request for a target server from the user device in order to establish secure connection between the user device and the target server. This step is first performed by replacing the IP address and the port number of the target server of the user request with a dynamically assigned gateway port and the IP address of the gateway. Then the dynamically assigned gateway port and the gateway's IP address are mapped to the port of and IP address of the target server such that the user request is not required to expose the IP address and port number of the target server at the gateway.

Method and apparatus for allowing a secure and transparent communication between a user device and servers of a data access network system via a firewall and a gateway

An operating environment for use on a computer system to provide operating system services to a user application running on the computer system. The computer system includes a network connecting the computer system to at least one other computer system. The user application generates operating system commands requiring access to the network, and commands requiring operating system actions that do not access the network. An operating environment according to the present invention includes a network server for accessing the network, a non-network server for executing operating system commands not requiring network services, and an emulation library for receiving the operating system commands generated by the user application. The emulation library decodes each of the received operating system commands to determine if that command requires network services, and forwards a command based on that received command to the non-network server or the network server depending on whether or not that command requires network services. The emulation library shares the same task as the user application and acts as a proxy for the operating system. The network server includes the translation routines for translating operating system commands to commands for one or more network protocol stacks.
