An electronic assembly includes a printed circuit board (PCB), an electronic component coupled to the PCB, an electrically conductive fence coupled to the PCB and surrounding a perimeter of the electronic component, and a fan assembly. The fan assembly includes a housing coupled to the fence and disposed over the electronic component and a plurality of fan blades configured to rotate within the housing.

Head mountable display

A head-mounted device may have a head-mounted housing. The housing may include a chassis with left and right openings that overlap respective left and right optical modules that present images eye boxes. Each optical module may have a lens and display that presents an image through the lens. The chassis may have an inner frame and outer frame. A middle portion of the chassis may form a stiffened nose bridge structure. Components in the housing such as a display, a fan housing, a heat sink layer, optical module guide rods, and a rear cover may span the width of the housing and may be attached to edge portions of the chassis, thereby forming a box-shaped structure that provides rigidity and helps prevent housing deformation.

Head-mounted electronic device

A head-mountable device can include an outer frame that can define a first opening, a second opening an internal volume between the first opening and the second opening, an intake port between the first opening and the second opening, and an exhaust port between the first opening and the second opening. In some examples, a front cover assembly can be disposed in the first opening. An inner frame can be coupled to the outer frame, where the inner frame can also define a first aperture and a second aperture. In some examples, a curtain assembly can occlude the second opening. Furthermore, the curtain assembly can include an elastic layer that can define an external surface. The curtain assembly can also include an air-impermeable layer that can define the internal volume.

A head-mountable device can provide a cooling module that effectively manages heat while also minimizing noise, vibration, leakage, power consumption, size, and weight. To dissipate heat, the cooling module with a fan can be operated to move air through a chamber within the head-mountable device. An integrated heat sink can provide heat dissipation properties by drawing heat away from heat-generating components and into the chamber. The integrated heat sink can include a base plate that defines at least a portion of the chamber in which the blades of the fan are positioned. The integrated heat sink can further include fins between the chamber and an outlet. The fins can be integrated with the base plate to maximize heat dissipation and reduce the number of interfaces between separate parts.

A display system, such as a wearable display device, includes a system housing including a cavity having a linear axis extending generally in parallel with first and second side walls enclosing the cavity and a display stack enclosed within the cavity and movable along the linear axis. The display stack includes a display panel and a support chassis configured to support a first side of the display panel and thermally couple the display panel to the first side wall to facilitate heat transfer from the display panel, across the support chassis, and to the system housing The display stack includes a heat sink configured for support by a second side of the display panel and to thermally couple the display panel to the second side wall to facilitate heat transfer from the display panel, across the heat sink, and to the system housing.

Structural thermal solutions for display devices

A head-mounted device can effectively manage heat while also managing noise output levels in a manner that preserves the user's desired experience with the head-mounted device. The head-mounted device can manage sound levels of a cooling system based on detected a sound level of ambient noise in a vicinity of the head-mounted device. For example, the head-mounted device can operate a fan at a speed that produces noise at a sound level that is low enough to be masked by the ambient noise perceived by the user. By further example, the sound level of a cooling system can be based on a sound level of a speaker of the head-mounted device providing audio to the user. By further example, other operational parameters of a cooling system can be controlled to manage noise at a sound level that is sufficiently low.

A head-mounted device includes a housing configured to be worn on a head of a user. The housing includes an inlet port and an outlet port. An air circulation device is mounted to the housing and configured to produce a flow of air through an air flow path in the housing that extends from the inlet port to the outlet port. A display assembly is mounted to the housing and has a surface in the air flow path of the housing. An air deflector mounted to the surface of the display assembly and configured to reduce a turbulence of the flow of air through the air flow path.

In one aspect of the present disclosure, a display system is disclosed, such as a wearable head-mounted display (HMD), that includes an internal system housing and a movable display stack. The display stack includes a display panel, a carrier supporting the display panel, and a heat sink that are secured together such that the display panel, the carrier, and the heat sink are movable in unison within the system housing to adjust focus of the display panel. The carrier and/or the heat sink respectively include first and second thermal solutions to facilitate heat transfer away from the display panel, which may include a material having high thermal-conductivity properties and/or any structure that is configured to increase the exposed surface area of the carrier and/or the heat sink, such as projections or extensions (e.g., fins), recesses, slits, openings, or the like.

A head-mounted display to be worn by a user includes a housing, a component chamber defined in the housing, and electronic components that generate heat. The electronic components are located in the component chamber of the housing. The head-mounted display also includes a first fan for causing air to flow through the component chamber.
