In various embodiments, a wireless device processor may determine a threat score for a first cell, determine whether the first cell threat score is below a first threat score threshold, update a good neighbor cell data structure using neighbor cell information from the first cell in response to determining that the first cell threat score is below the first threat score threshold, performing cell reselection to a second cell, determine whether the second cell transmits a system information block message indicating fake neighbor cell information, and increase a threat score for the second cell in response to determining that the second cell provides the SIB message indicating fake neighbor cell information and that a good neighbor cell data structure includes an indication of one or more good neighbor cells that are within the time threshold and the location threshold and doing countermeasures in a response to the determination.

Mitigating fake cell imprisonment

Aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to managing decoding of system information blocks (SIBs) at a user equipment (UE) and managing SIB transmissions at a base station. For example, the described aspects at the UE may include detecting a trigger event for decoding one or more SIBs received from a cell and determining to avoid decoding of at least one SIB received from the cell in response to the detected trigger event and a mobility pattern of the UE. The described aspect at the UE may further include using a stored version of the at least one SIB for communication with the first cell.

Techniques for improved decoding of system information blocks

In various aspects, the disclosure provides user equipment (UE) capable of conducting a public land mobile network (PLMN) search by determining a paging schedule for a serving cell of the UE, the serving cell being associated with a first PLMN and the paging schedule defining one or more paging occasions. The UE may initiate a search for a second PLMN between consecutive paging occasions, and may read information blocks on a broadcast channel of a cell of the second PLMN. The UE may discontinue reading a partially-read information block when the partially-read information block is scheduled for transmission at least partially concurrently with a paging occasion on the serving cell if the partially-read information block does not include information for identifying the second PLMN. The UE may ignore the first paging occasion when the partially-read information block includes the information for identifying the second PLMN.

Method to improve public land mobile network search

The present methods and apparatus relate to adapting a network configured timer corresponding to a user equipment (UE) capability information procedure for indicating one or more UE capabilities to a network entity, comprising determining a message size of a capability message configured for transmission from the UE to the network entity during the UE capability information procedure; and performing a timer adaptation procedure, wherein the timer adaptation procedure includes adapting the use of the network configured timer based on the message size of the capability message.

Enhanced timer handling mechanism

The present disclosure presents a method and apparatus for improving uplink (UL) performance at a user equipment (UE). For example, the method may include identifying a random access channel (RACH) preamble failure when the UE is communicating with a current serving cell of the UE, increasing transmission power of successive RACH preambles based at least on the identifying, comparing signals received on a downlink at the UE via a first path and a second path from the current serving cell of the UE, and determining that a RACH preamble failure problem exists at the UE based at least on the comparing of the signals received on the downlink and identifying of successive RACH preamble failures. As such, improved performance uplink (UL) performance at a UE may be achieved.
