Techniques described herein may be used to conserver battery power of an Internet of Things (IoT) tracker by increasing the overall amount of time that the IoT tracker is in a battery conservation mode (a sleep mode, a Power Save Mode (PSM), etc.). An IoT tracker may implement a battery conservation policy that may include instructions that cause the IoT tracker to monitor certain conditions, determine when the conditions satisfy a particular trigger, and implement a battery conservation mode in response to those conditions. Examples of such conditions may include (1) the IoT tracker being close to a user device designated to track the location of the IoT tracker, (2) identifying that a current time and day are associated with a pre-selected schedule for disabling tracking services, (3) the IoT tracker being located within a particular geographic area, and more.

Power management of an IoT tracker

A wireless local area network (WLAN) operations status with regard to a wireless access point may be changed for a user equipment (UE). A request, based on changing the WLAN operations status for the UE, may be sent to a base station. The request may cause the base station to send, to the UE, a first message based on the request. The first message may be received from the base station. A second message, based on the first message, may be sent to the base station. The second message may cause the base station to change availability of a radio service based on changing the WLAN operations status for the UE.

Disabling user equipment radio communication over an unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band during WLAN operations

A device may detect a trigger to configure a coverage enhancement mode for a wireless device. The wireless device may be associated with a particular coverage area. The device may determine information associated with one or more wireless devices connected to a network. The network may be associated with the particular coverage area. The information may be associated with a level of network traffic of the network. The device may determine a level of coverage enhancement for the wireless device based on the information associated with the one or more wireless devices connected to the network. The device may transmit an instruction to cause the wireless device to utilize the level of coverage enhancement for the coverage enhancement mode.

Network device based control of a coverage enhancement mode

A device may determine that a transmission of network traffic, associated with a wireless device, is complete. The transmission of network traffic may be between the wireless device and a base station associated with a network. The device may transmit a request to disconnect from the network based on determining that the transmission of network traffic is complete. The device may transfer the wireless device to the power saving mode based on receiving a response, to the request, that grants permission to disconnect from the network. The power saving mode being associated with one or more components of the wireless device being shut down.

Techniques are described that provide for the collaborative co-existence of LTE-U base stations and access points associated with technologies, such as WiFi, that use unlicensed frequency spectrum. In one implementation, a LTE-U device may select a frequency block, in an unlicensed frequency spectrum, based on measured signal strengths and decoded Master Information Blocks (MIBs) that are broadcast in the unlicensed frequency spectrum. The LTE-U device may initiate communications via the selected frequency block by transmitting a MIB that includes a token identifier field that identifies the selected frequency block.

Coexistence of LTE-U with WiFi and/or another LTE-U system in unlicensed spectrum

A method may be performed by a network device. The method may include conducting an attachment procedure with a wireless device, wherein the conducting forms a session between the wireless device and the core network; associating the wireless device with a short message service (SMS) capability for the session, wherein the SMS capability indicates whether the wireless device can process SMS messages via Internet protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) protocols; identifying an SMS message intended for an application residing on the wireless device; routing the SMS message via IMS protocols when the SMS capability of the wireless device indicates the wireless device can process IMS protocols; and routing the SMS message via non-access stratum (NAS) protocols when the SMS capability of the wireless device indicates the wireless device cannot process IMS protocols.

A method includes configuring a device, which is capable of operating in accordance with a first capability level, at a second capability level that is less than the first capability level. The method also includes identifying a problem or situation in which the first capability level is needed and reconfiguring the device to operate in accordance with the first capability level, in response to identifying the problem or situation. The method may further include determining that the problem or situation has been resolved and configuring the device to operate in accordance with the second capability level, in response to determining that the problem or situation has been resolved.

Reconfiguring wireless device capability and performance

Systems and methods for device state derivation are described. Some implementations include receiving, from a mobile station at a state derivation server, current connectivity characteristics of one or more radio access technologies (RATs) that are serviced by a modem of the mobile station, analyzing the one or more connectivity characteristics to determine one or more of: whether the mobile station is tuning away from a particular RAT to access another RAT or a duration for which the mobile station is tuning away from the particular RAT to access the other RAT, based on the analyzing, determining a current connectivity state of the mobile station, and displaying the current connectivity state at a user interface of a computing device associated with the state derivation server.

A device may determine to page a machine device. The device may determine a coverage level value associated with the machine device. The coverage level value may indicate a network condition in an area in which the machine device has been deployed. The device may determine, based on the coverage level value, a quantity of pages to be transmitted for the machine device. The device may determine, based on the coverage level value and the quantity of pages, one or more frequency ranges to be used to transmit one or more pages. The device may transmit the one or more pages using the one or more frequency ranges.

Radio access network machine paging procedure for machine-type communication devices

A mobile device has several ways to determine position, some of which rely on interaction with the network. Once mobile device establishes a call, the call may remain on the network access technology and band over which the call was established, even if the call requires services not supported by the network access technology and/or band. So, when a call requires a position determination (e.g. emergency call), the mobile device selects a network access technology and band which will potentially improve the probability and accuracy of position determination, even if interaction with the network is not required because other position determination techniques (e.g. GPS) may be available.
