A system for providing updates in a vehicle includes a server device configured for providing an OTA campaign update and the vehicle. The vehicle includes a device including software to be upgraded by the over-the-air campaign update and a low voltage battery providing low voltage power. The system further includes a battery providing high voltage power and an accessory power module configured to transform the high voltage power into low voltage power and including programming to estimate an available power of the low voltage battery. The system further includes a controller monitoring the available power, comparing the available power to a threshold, and, when the available power is less than the threshold, commanding the accessory power module to transform the high voltage power to provide the low voltage electrical power. The controller further schedules receiving the update based upon the available power and updates the device with the update.

Method and system to optimize power utilization using an alternative power converter while operating vehicle software updates

A method of prioritizing updates to vehicles includes receiving one or more update requests for a first vehicle; determining a receiving capacity of the first vehicle; checking status of a battery and communications of the first vehicle; prioritizing the one or more update requests based on the receiving capacity of the first vehicle; and sending the prioritized update requests to the first vehicle. The method may include receiving one or more update requests for an additional vehicle; determining a receiving capacity of the additional vehicle; prioritizing the one or more update requests based on the receiving capacity of the additional vehicle; sending the prioritized update requests to the additional vehicle: and determining whether the vehicles are part of a common location group. Creating profiles from sets of communications available for the vehicle and selecting the best connection speed from profiles. Updating radio maps based on connection speeds.

Scaled vehicle communications architecture system

A system for multi-mode connectivity for group vehicle activity and for over-the-air updates via time synchronized device-to-device side-link communications is provided. The system includes a remote communication device configured to transmit data, vehicles to receive the data, and a computerized controller. The controller includes programming to analyze hardware of the vehicles to identify alpha vehicles including excellent wireless capabilities, monitor signal strength between the vehicles and the remote communication device to identify vehicles including relatively strong communication strength, and determine a portion of the plurality of vehicles including highly functioning vehicles including the capabilities and communication strength. The controller generates a series of data transfers to first transfer the data from the remote communication device a highly functioning vehicle and subsequently transfer the data from the highly functioning vehicle to a second of the vehicles and transfers the data. The highly functioning vehicle retransmits the data to the second vehicle.

System and method for multi-mode connectivity for group vehicle activity and for over-the-air updates via time synchronized device-to-device side-link communications

A method of operating a mobile communication system of a motor vehicle is provided for initiating a voice call with a third party. The system includes an ECU, and the ECU includes a controller and a memory storing computer code. The method includes the steps of: (a) initiating a timer; (b) operating the ECU in a first mode in which the ECU attempts to engage in a VoNR call via a first network; (c) repeating step (b) within a predetermined amount of time until the ECU successfully engages in the VoNR call; and (d) operating the ECU in a second mode to attempt to engage in a VoLTE call via a second network in response to the controller determining that the ECU in the first mode did not successfully engage in the VoNR call within a predetermined amount of time.

Mobile communication system with fallback strategy for a motor vehicle

A system and method of remotely changing use of a cellular protocol at a vehicle includes: storing, in a network access device (NAD) at the vehicle, identities of one or more cellular bands that provide cellular service according to an up-to-date cellular protocol; wirelessly receiving at the vehicle a computer-readable instruction that deactivates the up-to-date cellular protocol; and in response to the computer-readable instruction, the vehicle: obtains the identities of the cellular bands stored in the NAD; stores the obtained identities in a non-volatile memory device located apart from the NAD; and erases in the NAD the identities of the cellular bands that provide cellular service according to an up-to-date cellular protocol.

Upon determining an interruption in a signal from the content provider with respect to the instance of the content item, the intelligent switching of audio sources also includes presenting an alternative content item, through the audio system, from one of the alternative sources of content.

A method includes: receiving input front a user designating a destination; determining a calculated route from a starting point to the destination; and presenting turn-by-turn (TBT) directions based on the route, wherein the presenting of the TBT directions includes presenting conditions information received from an external source. The conditions information can be used during route calculation and can be updated while the user is traveling on the calculated route.
