An imaging apparatus may comprise a lens assembly including one or more lenses, an image sensor to receive light from the lens assembly, and an actuator to adjust a position of the lens assembly. An actuator may be mounted on an image sensor, wherein a surface area of the actuator need not extend substantially beyond a surface area of the image sensor.

A lens actuation device for an optical system includes a housing, a carrier at least partially installed in the housing, and a plurality of transducers arranged around the carrier in the housing. All the transducers are coupled with the mount, and at least one transducer includes at least one magnet and at least one coil. At least one transducer includes at least one yoke. All the transducers when powered on may generate independent or consistent movement to cause the mount to make linear movement, rotation, or both relative to the housing. An optical system adopting the lens actuation device and a camera using the same are also presented. The device of the present invention uses the transducers to drive the carrier, such that the lens set is driven to make linear movement, rotation, or both, thereby achieving the flexible manipulation of the lens.

There is provided an actuator used in an optical system comprising a housing, a carrier disposed at least partly inside the housing, and a plurality of linear motion transducers coupled to the carrier and substantially evenly spaced around the carrier within the housing. Each linear motion transducer is able to produce linear motion when energized displacing the carrier relative to the housing to produce linear motion, tilting motion, or both of the carrier.

An optical assembly incorporates a compact and efficient lens for coupling a beam of light from an optical device to an optical fiber. The lens includes a curved reflecting surface and a focusing surface. The lens is positioned to receive and internally reflect the beam of light from the optical device toward the focusing surface. The focusing surface in turn focuses the reflected beam into the end of an optical fiber. The curved surface may include a reflective coating for transmitting a portion of the beam toward a monitoring unit which is used to monitor a parameter of the beam. The optical assembly may further include a platform for supporting the optical device, the lens, the optical fiber and the monitoring unit.
