A method and system for providing a magnetic recording head is described. The magnetic recording head has an air-bearing surface (ABS) configured to reside in proximity to a media during use. The magnetic recording head includes a main pole, at least one auxiliary pole, a nonmagnetic spacer, and at least one coil. The main pole includes a first main pole piece and a second main pole piece. The first main pole piece includes a pole tip occupying a portion of the ABS and a back edge distal from the ABS. The second main pole piece has a front surface. The auxiliary pole(s) have a front recessed from the ABS and are magnetically coupled with the main pole. The nonmagnetic spacer is between the back edge of the first main pole piece and the front surface of the second main pole piece. The coil(s) are for energizing the main pole.

System for providing a transducer having a split main pole

A method and system for providing a read magnetic transducer having an air-bearing surface (ABS) is described. The magnetic read transducer includes a first shield, a read sensor stack, an antiferromagnetic (AFM) tab, and a second shield. The read sensor stack includes a pinned layer, a spacer layer, and a free layer. The spacer layer is nonmagnetic and between the pinned layer and the free layer. A portion of the read sensor stack is at the ABS. The AFM tab is recessed from the ABS and adjacent to a portion of the pinned layer. The read sensor resides between the first shield and the second shield.

Method and system for providing a read transducer having a reduced shield-to-shield spacing

A perpendicular magnetic recording head for use in a hard disk drive has a main pole that has a main pole tip in proximity to an air bearing surface. The main pole tip has a first width at the ABS, extending distally at a first angle measured from the plane of the ABS to a second width measured at a first distance from the ABS. The main pole tip extends distally at a second angle measured from the plane of the ABS from the second width to a third width, wherein the second angle is less than the first angle. The main pole tip extends distally at a third angle measured from the plane of the ABS from the third width to a fourth width, wherein the third angle is greater than the second angle. The first distance is between 25 and 100 nanometers.

A disk drive is disclosed comprising a disk having a plurality of data tracks, and a head actuated over the disk, the head comprising a first read element and a second read element. A data track is read to generate a first read signal emanating from the first read element and a second read signal emanating from the second read element. The first read signal is delayed in continuous time relative to the second read signal to generate a delayed read signal, and the second read signal is combined with the delayed read signal to generate a combined read signal. An estimated data sequence is detected from the combined read signal.

A magnetoresistive sensor having a novel free layer and a method of producing the same are disclosed. The magnetoresistive sensor comprises a pinned layer, a barrier layer disposed over the pinned layer, and a free layer disposed over the barrier layer. The free layer comprises a first magnetic layer disposed over the barrier layer. The first magnetic layer has a positive spin polarization, a positive magnetostriction, and a polycrystalline structure. The free layer further comprises a second magnetic layer disposed over the first magnetic layer. The second magnetic layer has a negative magnetostriction and comprises at least cobalt (Co) and boron (B).

A first conductor is proximate a leading edge of the write pole tip for carrying current to generate a second field that augments the first field.

Wire-assisted magnetic write device with low power consumption

A method of fabricating a discrete track magnetic recording media. A base layer is provided onto which repeating and alternating magnetic layer and non-magnetic layers are deposited. The thickness of the magnetic layer corresponds to the width of the track of the recording media. A cylindrical rod can be used as the base layer, such that the alternating magnetic and non-magnetic layers spiraling or concentric layers around the rod. The resulting media layer can be cut or sliced into individual magnetic media or used to imprint other media discs with the discrete pattern of the media layer.

The method and system include providing a first pole, a main pole, at least one coil and at least one auxiliary pole. The main pole is for providing a magnetic field for recording to the media. At least one of the first pole, the auxiliary pole, and the at least one shield includes a composite magnetic material including a plurality of ferromagnetic grains in an insulating matrix.

The present invention relates to a memory cell including a first reference layer having a first magnetization with a first magnetization direction and a second reference layer having a second magnetization with a second magnetization direction substantially perpendicular to the first magnetization direction. A storage layer is disposed between the first reference layer and second reference layer and has a third magnetization direction about 45&#xb0; from the first magnetization direction and about 135&#xb0; from the second magnetization direction when the memory cell is in a first data state, and a fourth magnetization direction opposite the third magnetization direction when the memory cell is in a second data state.

A method and system for providing a magnetic structure in magnetic transducer is described. The magnetic structure includes a pinned layer, a nonmagnetic spacer layer, and a free layer. The nonmagnetic spacer layer is between the pinned layer and the free layer. The free layer includes a first magnetic layer, a second magnetic layer, and a magnetic insertion layer between the first magnetic layer and the second magnetic layer. The first magnetic layer has a first magnetostriction. The second magnetic layer has a second magnetostriction opposite to the first magnetostriction. Method and system for providing a read sensor having a low magnetostriction free layer

A tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) read head and a method of producing the same are disclosed. A free layer having a free layer stripe height is provided, the free layer having a first side and a second side. A tunneling barrier layer is formed adjacent to the first side of the free layer, the tunneling barrier layer having a first side and a second side, the second side of the tunneling barrier layer facing the first side of the free layer. A pinned stack is formed adjacent to the first side of the tunneling barrier layer. The pinned stack comprises at least one magnetic layer having a current path stripe height that is less than the free layer stripe height.

A method and system for providing a magnetic transducer for recording to media is described. The method and system include providing a first pole, a main pole, an auxiliary pole, and at least one coil. The main pole has a first media-facing surface including a recessed portion and a write portion. The auxiliary pole is magnetically coupled with the main pole and has a second media-facing surface. The second media-facing surface includes a first portion and a second portion. The first portion is in proximity to the write portion of the first media-facing surface of the main pole. The second portion is in proximity to and recessed from the recessed portion of the first media-facing surface of the main pole. The coil(s) are for energizing the main pole.
