The invention proposes a method for transmitting a message to a plurality of user entities in a network by using a multicast service, comprising the steps of encrypting a multicast message by using ciphering, and sending the encrypted multicast message to the plurality of user entities simultaneously. The invention also proposes a corresponding multicast service control device and a corresponding user entity.

Ciphering as a part of the multicast concept

The present invention relates to a method and system for performing a multicast transmission in a cellular network, wherein an identification information, which indicates terminal devices and/or areas in which authorized terminal devices are assumed to be located, is transmitted from a core network () to a radio access network of the cellular network by using a control information transmission protocol. Then, a signalling connection of a control and user data transmission protocol is establishing based on said identification information and used for transmitting multicast related data and corresponding control information between the core network () and the radio access network. Thereby, already defined protocol layers can be used for implementing multicast transmission, while modifications are minimized.

Multicast transmission to a radio access network

The invention relates to methods for providing a network element of a communications network with data, in particular HSDPA related data. In order to enable the transmission of user data, it is proposed that a controller of the network uses a dedicated frame structure for assembling frames with said user data. The frames can then be transmitted from the controller via an interface to the network element. In order to enable the transmission of control parameters, it is further proposed that an interface application protocol is employed which allows the controller to add control parameters to control messages transmitted from the controller to a network element via the interface.

In packet data transmission method, a packet data connection is indicated with a connection identifier and the destination of the packet data connection is indicated with a destination identifier. A destination identifier is involved in the initialization of a transmission queue, at least one connection identifier is related to each transmission queue, and a set of proper connection identifiers is the union of the connection identifiers related to the initialized transmission queues. A data packet having a proper connection identifier is placed () to the corresponding transmission queue. The method is characterized in that the initialization of a new transmission queue is triggered () by a data packet not having a proper connection identifier and having a destination identifier and after a successful initialization of a new transmission queue the data packet that triggered the initialization is placed () to the new transmission queue. The method can be employed, for example, in a network element ().

Transmission method for packet data and a network element

The present invention relates to a method and system for linking a service context to a terminal connection in a network controlling device of a data network, wherein a service indication is forwarded via the terminal connection to the data network, and an association is established between the service context and the terminal connection based on a network response to the service indication. The desired link between the terminal connection and the service context can thus be established at the network controlling device based on the forwarded service indication, e.g. cause value for establishing the terminal connection. Thereby, network resources can be optimized by releasing non-valid terminal connections.

The present invention relates to relocation of the control of communication between a first station and a second station from a first communication system controller to a second communication system controller. The communication is ciphered by means of a first ciphering key. In the method, after the initiation of the relocation of control of the communication from the first controller to the second controller a request for relocation is transmitted to the second controller. The request contains the first ciphering key and at least one other ciphering key.

Controlling communications between stations

A method and system for providing a broadcast or multicast service to a terminal device in a data network, wherein a connection state of the terminal device is switched to a dedicated channel state in which a dedicated physical channel is allocated to the terminal device, in response to a broadcast service notification. Thereby, point-to-point connections can be used for data transmission of said broadcast or multicast service, without requiring any additional responses from the concerned terminal devices.

Service-activation based state switching

The invention relates to a mechanism for performing multicast transmission in a cellular network. In order to enable establishment of resources only in cells containing members of the multicast group and to avoid congestion on the uplink channel, a multicast service notification is transmitted to mobile stations, thereby informing members of the multicast group of an upcoming multicast session. The moment for a response to said multicast service notification is selected in the mobile stations and a presence report is sent from at least one of said mobile stations at the response moment of said at least one mobile station. The presence report or reports are received within a radio access network, and radio resources are established for multicast transmission in a cell of the cellular network when the presence report(s) received in said cell meet(s) predetermined criteria.

Multicast transmission in a cellular network

A method of transmitting data from a transmitter towards a receiver can include forming a plurality of ordered data units each comprising a part of a data message. The method can also include transmitting at least some of the data units in order. The method can further include identifying a discard status in response of the data message. When a subset of the data units including the final one of the data units and at least one other of the data units has not been transmitted, the method can include indicating that the data message is to be discarded, specifying the identity of the final one of the data units, and transmitting only the final one of the data units from the subset.

Data transmission protocol

A method and an arrangement are disclosed for resetting a communication connection between a first communication device and a second communication device in a cellular radio system. Firstly, there is detected the need for resetting the communication connection. There is transmitted from the first communication device to the second communication device a first piece of information indicating the need for resetting the communication connection. A resetting procedure is performed at the second communication device, and there is transmitted from the second communication device to the first communication device a second piece of information indicating the completion of the resetting procedure with respect to the second communication device. There is also inserted into a certain piece of information transmitted between the first communication device and the second communication device an indication of an effective number of certain resetting operations associated with a certain detected need for resetting the communication connection.
