A three dimensional projection television system in which the screen of the receiver alternatively receives a television picture field as polarized by polarizing apparatus and a television picture field which is orthogonally polarized with respect to the fields polarized by the polarizing apparatus. Also disclosed in a receiver for use in such a system. The receiver includes three projectors each projecting through a polarizer and an individual electro-optical crystal device.

Television transmission or data storage system with time-division multiplex encoding. At least two signal sources are coupled via an encoding circuit for time-division multiplex encoding to a transmission or storage channel to which a data receiver including a decoding circuit can be connected. The signal supplied comprises two or more sub-picture signals during the line periods and the signal-compression or expansion time ratios for the different sub-picture signals are different. The decoding circuit is suitable for consecutively supplying signals during a line period of the data receiver, which signals largely correspond to the different sub-picture signals.

Television system and data generator and receiver suitable therefor

Color-television transmission (or data storage) system having time-division multiplex encoding. A data source is coupled, via an encoding circuit for time-division multiplex coding and signal compression, to a transmission (or storage) channel to which a data receiver comprising a decoding circuit is connectable. Luminance information associated therewith is transmitted non-compressed in a number of p different line periods. The system is compatible with an existing color television standard because the chrominance information, supplied during the q line periods, is also added to the luminance information during the p line periods in accordance with the standard.

Color television transmission or data storage system having

Color television transmission and data storage system, respectively, with time-division multiplex encoding. A signal source is coupled via an encoding circuit for time-division multiplex encoding and signal compression to a transmission and storage channel, respectively to which a data receiver having a complementary decoding circuit is connectable. Luminance information associated with a number of p line periods is transmitted substantially non-compressed. A portion of the chrominance information associated therewith is transmitted in considerably compressed form in a number of q further line periods. In this situation there is an average chrominance time compression factor which is substantially equal to or less than q/p. On display, p lines are displayed with substantially the full bandwidth for the luminance and a limited chrominance bandwidth which is inherent to the time compression. The channel is then used optimally to obtain a high picture quality on display.

Color television transmission and data storage system, respectively with

In a television transmission system, an encoding circuit in a data generator transmits (or stores) identification information relating to variable numbers of television lines or variable portions of television lines in which luminance and chrominance information occur, compressed where appropriate. The data receiver includes a simple, properly adaptable decoding circuit which comprises presettable counters for counting portions of television lines and for counting television lines, outputs of these counters being coupled to address inputs of a programmable memory which is coupled to a multiplexer which is switchable by the identification information and is followed by a logic circuit for generating control signals for a chrominance memory having the same write and read rates and for luminance and chrominance memories having said write rates and several read rates, under the control of a clock pulse source which is switchable via the logic circuit and the identification information. In the data generator the encoding circuit may be of a similar construction combined with luminance and chrominance memories having different write rates and the read rate mentioned in the foregoing.

Color television transmission or data storage system with time division

A picture flicker correction is desired with video disc players involving display of a stop-motion or still television picture and with television displays using field and line frequency doubling, in accordance with the so-called ABAB method. With a movement detector (51) movement or the absence of movement is detected. Two adding circuits (19, 22) are connected in parallel to delay devices (9, 9+12) having time delays substantially equal to a field period. By means of two switch-over devices (32, 37) switched by the movement detector (51), the delay devices (9, 9+12) or the adding circuits (19, 22) can be coupled with a switch-over device (45) which is switched once per field period. A further delay device (42) having a time delay substantially equal to a field period provides for information transfer during second field periods of frame periods comprising two field periods. In the absence of movement detection, the original information is transferred, and in the event of movement detection, the combined information is transferred.

Television circuit for picture flicker correction

By providing, in a field-frequency doubling circuit comprising a converter circuit (3) of an A, A, B, B, type, an interpolation circuit (31) which combines, in an appropriate manner, the information of two subjacent lines of a first field of a picture of the television signal to be converted and a second field of a picture of the television signal to be converted, line flicker can be prevented from occurring without it being necessary to provide a movement detector and a change-over switch for an A, B, A, B-type conversion.

Field-frequency doubling circuit

A high definition color television transmission system in which wide-band luminance information (Y, FIG. 1) is utilized to produce a first luminance information portion comprising lower frequency (0 to 3.8 MHz) and middle frequency (3.8 to 5.5 MHz) components and a second luminance information portion comprising the middle frequency (3.8 to 5.5 MHz) and upper frequency (5.5 to 8.8 MHz) components. The first luminance information portion (Y1, FIG. 2) is transmitted by way of a first transmission path together with a color subcarrier (f.sub.sc) modulated by color information. The bandwidth of the color information is such that the modulation component lie substantially within the bandwidth of the middle frequency components. The second luminance information portion is frequency shifted to lie within 0 and 5 MHz (Y2, FIG. 3) and is transmitted by way of a second transmission path. The two transmissions may also carry separate sound signals (f.sub.S1, FIG. 1, f.sub.S2, FIG. 3). The two transmissions may be jointly received for the provision of a high definition display, however, the invention has the distinct advantage that the signal of the first transmission path may be received alone by currently manufactured television receivers for reproduction of a display of a quality which is accepted as normal.

Television transmission system

A compatible television system for high-definition and for standardized low-definition television. In a transmitter (1) in the system, a high-definition video signal (VS1) is generated which is split into a contour signal (HVC2) which on display shows details in the horizontal and vertical directions, and a low-definition video signal (VS6). The low-definition video signal (VS6) is converted into a low-definition video signal (VS7) in conformity with the standard. The contour signal (HVC2) is also converted, but is transmitted periodically over several picture periods (HVC3). Both these converted signals are transmitted or stored, respectively, in two separate signal channels (3,4), each suitable for standard low-definition television. In a receiver (2) the standard video signal (VS7) can be utilized directly for low-definition display by a standard display device (8). In addition, a receiver (2) comprises a high-definition display device (7) in which the converted signals are reconverted and, after having been combined (48) result in a high definition video signal suitable for high-definition display by a picture display apparatus (49 ). As high-definition in the region of movement in the picture may disturb the picture quality, the contour signal may be locally suppressed on display.

In order to minimize the effects of magnetic fields in a color television camera, the color prism arrangement is constructed so that at least two camera tubes can be arranged parallel to each other.

A three-dimensional, black-white or color television display device which is compatible for two-dimensional television. Located in front of the screen of a direct-view display tube is a removable strip or dot filter having alternatingly light-reflecting and light-dispersing strips or dots and light-transmissive, polarizing or light-selecting strips or areas. The display device is provided with a projection display tube which gives with three-dimensional display an image on the strip or dot filter via a polarizer or light-selecting filter. By means of spectacles having polarized glasses or light-selecting glasses an observer can observe a three-dimensional image.

A black-white or color television camera comprising a pick-up tube, provided with a signal electrode composed of separated strips. Prior to a line scan to be performed by an electron beam, the signal electrode strips are connected to a reference potential. After a scan the strips are through-connected successively through associated switches for supplying information. The switch outputs are alternatingly, in at least two groups through-connected and connected to at least two output leads. Always two stitches, which are connected to two adjacent strips are closed simultaneously. In this way it is avoided that a capacitive voltage distribution across the strips and switch inputs influence the picture signal obtained in a disturbing manner.

Television camera having signal electrode strips

When the information of a continuous-motion video record is displayed in the stop-motion mode by repeated display of two fields which form an interlaced picture, motion in the scene gives rise to a frame-frequency flicker phenomenon in the stop-motion picture. By forming suitable video signal combinations in discrete groups which each comprise two associated fields and by recording these combinations in the video record, the flicker phenomenon in a stop-motion picture is eliminated without continuous display being perceptibly affected.

Method of, and apparatus for, manufacturing a video record

A black-white or color television camera has a pick-up tube having a signal electrode comprising separate strips. Before a line scanning operation to be performed by an electron beam takes place, the signal electrode strips are coupled to a reference potential. After the line scan, the strips which are coupled separately to parallel inputs of a switching circuit which is provided with switches coupled to the parallel inputs, are coupled for supplying video information. This results in a separation between electron beam scanning and picture signal supply by the pick-up tube, which has the advantage that the beam scanning does not affect the picture quality in the direction of line scan. Furthermore, the construction with strips yield an improved signal-to-noise ratio. The switching circuit may, possibly together with a shift register, be integrated in a semiconductor body, which is provided near the signal electrode in the pick-up tube or outside the pick-tube.

Television camera and pick-up tube having stripes for improved

A field-sequential color television camera provided with a pick-up device formed with a number of read strips to be read simultaneously along and in front of which filter strips of a color filter move. An output of the pick-up device supplying output signals associated with successively different colors of the filter strips and with a given read strips is associated with each read strip. The outputs of the pick-up device are connected to a sequential-simultaneous converter so that picture signals each associated with a different color but with an instantaneously identical read strip of the number of read strips occur at camera outputs through a switching circuit and delay circuit. Movement in a scene does not exhibit any disturbing discolored edges upon display such as a so-called 'color break'. A simple converter construction is possible.
