A method for wireless communication at a user equipment (UE) and related apparatus are provided. In the method, the UE receives, from a network entity, a first set of reference signals associated with a first number of available antenna elements on the UE, and selects, based on the first set of reference signals, a second number of selected antenna elements from the first number of available antenna elements. The second number may be smaller than the first number. The UE further communicates data via the second number of the antenna elements based on a set of beam weights. The set of beam weights may be based on a second set of reference signals generated based on the second number of selected antenna elements.

Determining optimal beam weights to be used over an antenna subset

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide a method for wireless communications at a user equipment (UE). The UE transmits capability information corresponding to one or more antenna modules of the UE to a network entity. The capability information may include a quantity of boresight directions associated with each antenna module of the one or more antenna modules. The UE may receive from the network entity, after the capability information is transmitted, an indication of a beam switch and/or an antenna module switch. The beam switch indicates a switch from an active beam to a target beam. The antenna module switch indicates a switch from an active antenna module to a target antenna module.

Switching across antenna modules with independent boresight directions

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide a method for wireless communications at a user equipment (UE). The UE transmits beamforming capability information indicating one or more adaptive beam weights. The UE receives, after outputting the beamforming capability information, an indication of beamforming adjustment phase information. The beamforming adjustment phase information is based on circuit-level information of the UE associated with at least one of an adaptive beam weight synthesis period or an adaptive beam weight usage period. The UE adjusts the one or more adaptive beam weights based on the indication.

Methods for incorporating mismatches between radio frequency (RF) conditions over measurement epochs and RF conditions over the usage of adaptive beam weight beamforming

A dual-polarized multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) mobile device is provided that includes a first array of antennas and a second array of antennas. Based upon a blockage of at least one of the array of antennas being less than a blockage threshold, the mobile device operates in a default configuration in which a default polarization selection from the second array is used in combination with a fixed polarization selection from the first array to form a first MIMO layer signal and a second MIMO layer signal. Should the blockage exceed the blockage threshold and an optional performance threshold be satisfied, the mobile device may operate in a dynamic configuration in which a dynamic polarization selection from the second array is reversed as compared to the default polarization selection.
