A seat belt webbing has a plurality of warp threads (), a weft thread () which runs from one edge of the seat belt webbing to the other edge, periodically reversing the direction in reversal points and is interwoven with the warp threads ().The weft thread () in the reversal points in an edge portion (B) is folded back forming a loop, and a catch thread () which is fed through the loops of the weft thread ().The catch thread () is placed between the warp threads () and is covered by the weft thread () and/or by the warp threads () towards the surface of the seat belt webbing.

An air bag formed from two layers of fabric using a one-piece weaving technique has a peripheral seam at the edge of a region adapted to be inflated. Beyond the seam there are a plurality of chambers and gas escaping from the inflated region through the seam must inflate these chambers thus creating a back pressure to reduce the flow of escaping gas.

In manufacturing an air-bag () which is formed from two super-imposed layers of fabric () interconnected by a plurality of seams (), a sealant material is applied to the interior of the air-bag. The sealant material is applied by introducing a mandrel () carrying a parison of the sealant material () into the air-bag, and injecting air into the mandrel.

An air-bag in the form of an inflatable curtain has a plurality of zones each provided with vertically extending cells defined by seams. Uninflatable regions are provided, the uninflatable regions being provided with oval apertures. On deployment of the inflatable curtain, the oval apertures will distend to become circular, enabling the uninflated region effectively to stretch to moderate the tension generated between two anchoring points connected by straps to the lower edge of the air-bag.
