A computer-assisted medical system includes a manipulator, an instrument holder physically coupled to the manipulator arm, and a controller that includes a computer processor. The instrument holder includes an instrument holder carriage configured to releasably couple to an instrument and translate the instrument along a longitudinal axis. The controller applies a signal that represents a movement for the instrument along the longitudinal axis to a filter to differentiate between a first and a second motion component of the movement along the longitudinal axis, and causes the instrument to move in accordance with the movement along the longitudinal axis by commanding the manipulator arm to move based on the first motion component of the movement along the longitudinal axis. The controller further commands, based on the second motion component of the movement along the longitudinal axis, the instrument holder carriage to move relative to the manipulator arm.

Computer-assisted medical systems and methods

A surgical system drape incudes: a sheath having an interior cavity sized to cover a portion of a surgical system manipulator; an adaptor coupled to the sheath and including a manipulator interface and an instrument interface, the manipulator interface configured to couple with a drive interface of the manipulator, the instrument interface being configured to couple with a drive interface of a surgical instrument mounted to the manipulator; and a fluid conduit coupled to the sheath and extending within the interior cavity of the sheath, the fluid conduit configured to receive a flow of cooling fluid at a fluid port and convey the fluid along the interior cavity of the sheath to cool a component of a portion of the manipulator.

A computer-assisted medical system includes a user device wearable by an operator. The user device includes a display device configured to present imagery overlaid in an environment of a manipulator assembly, and a sensor configured to detect one or more landmarks in the environment. The medical system includes a controller configured to execute instructions to perform operations The operations include receiving, from the sensor, position or orientation information for the one or more landmarks in the environment, and directing a manual movement of a portion of the manipulator assembly by causing the display device to present the imagery overlaid in the environment based on the received position or orientation information.

Methods of guiding manual movement of medical systems

A robotic system includes a base movable relative to a floor surface and a controllable arm extending from the base. The arm is configured to support and move a tool. The arm has a powered joint operable to position and/or orient a distal portion of the arm. The robotic system further includes a processor coupled to the powered joint and configured to drive the powered joint to reposition the base while the position and/or orientation of the distal portion of the arm is maintained.

A robotic system includes a base movable relative to a floor surface and a controllable arm extending from the base. The arm is configured to support and move a tool. For example, the disclosure provides mechanisms for sensing and controlling a field of view of an endoscope by determining a pose of the field of view using a first location and a second location, and controlling the pose of the field of view by moving at least one of: the first portion and the second portion. The first location is of a first portion of the endoscope and the second location is of a second portion of the endoscope. The endoscope comprises a flexible portion disposed between the first portion and the second portion. The first and second locations are defined by a configuration, relative to the endoscope, of an endoscope support and a cannula. The endoscope support configured to support the endoscope. A shaft of the endoscope is configured to extend through the cannula.

Method for positioning an endoscope with flexible shaft

Systems and methods for minimally invasive procedures include a computer-assisted system comprising a manipulator assembly configured to couple to a cannula and a controller coupled to the manipulator assembly. The cannula has a lumen configured to receive a shaft of an instrument. The controller is configured to position a remote center of motion for the manipulator assembly at a first location relative to the cannula, and in response to an indication to reposition the remote center of motion relative to the cannula, reposition the remote center of motion to a second location relative to the cannula while constraining the second location to be located along the cannula. The second location is different from the first location.

Computer-assisted tele-operated surgery systems and methods

A computer-assisted medical system includes a manipulator arm and an instrument holder physically coupled to the manipulator arm. The instrument holder is configured to releasably couple to an instrument. The instrument holder includes an adjustable assembly and a cannula clamp physically coupled to the adjustable assembly. A physical adjustment of the adjustable assembly moves the cannula clamp relative to the manipulator arm. The cannula clamp is configured to releasably couple to a cannula configured to receive the instrument.

A system includes a robotic manipulator including a serial chain comprising a first joint, a second joint, and a first link. The system further includes a processing unit including one or more processors. The processing unit is configured to receive first link data from a first sensor system located at the first link, generate a first joint state estimate of the first joint based on the first link data, and generate a second joint state estimate of the second joint. The processing unit is further configured to apply a first weight to the first joint state estimate to generate a first weighted joint state estimate, apply a second weight to the second joint state estimate to generate a second weighted joint state estimate, and control the first and second joints based on the first weighted joint state estimate and second weighted joint state estimate.

Systems and methods for controlling a robotic manipulator or associated tool

A teleoperated system includes a master grip and a ratcheting system coupled to the master grip. The ratcheting system is configured to align the master grip with a slave instrument commanded by the master grip by determining grip rotation values describing an orientation of the master grip, determining instrument rotation values describing an orientation of the instrument, determining an orientation error between an orientation of the master grip and the orientation of the instrument based on the grip rotation values and the instrument rotation values, and reducing the orientation error by low pass filtering the grip rotation values or the instrument rotation values.

Ratcheting for master alignment of a teleoperated minimally-invasive surgical instrument

A robotic system includes a processor that is programmed to determine and cause work site measurements for user specified points in the work site to be graphically displayed in order to provide geometrically appropriate tool selection assistance to the user. The processor is also programmed to determine an optimal one of a plurality of tools of varying geometries for use at the work site and to cause graphical representations of at least the optimal tool to be displayed along with the work site measurements.

A system comprises a first robotic arm adapted to support and move a tool and a second robotic arm adapted to support and move a camera. The system also comprises an input device, a display, and a processor. The processor is configured to, in a first mode, command the first robotic arm to move the camera in response to a first input received from the input device to capture an image of the tool and present the image as a displayed image on the display. The processor is configured to, in a second mode, display a synthetic image of the first robotic arm in a boundary area around the captured image on the display, and in response to a second input, change a size of the boundary area relative a size of the displayed image.

Systems and methods for minimally invasive tele-surgery are described. For example, the disclosure describes methods for independently controlling motions of the robotic manipulator, cannula, and surgical instrument in various surgical contexts.
