An improved system and method for the selection and dispensing of reagents onto a target testing medium in an automated laboratory environment. The system utilizes multiple carousels rotatably-mounted upon a central turntable. The position of the central turntable, as well as the rotation of each carousel is controlled by a microprocessor-based control system. Multiple dispensers, each capable of storing and dispensing a particular reagent, are mounted about the circumference of each carousel. This configuration provides much higher reagent density than previously available. The testing medium is positioned at one or more loading stations. The control system directs the central turntable to a position from which a selected one of the carousels can be rotated so as to position a selected dispenser above the testing medium. The selected dispenser is then actuated to release a predetermined reagent onto the testing medium. The system can be configured so that multiple reagents can be dispensed, each from an associated dispenser, onto a single or multiple testing mediums. Each of these actuated dispensers being positioned over the targeted testing medium(s) positioned at one or more loading stations.

A printing device includes a print media pathway connecting a print media source with a marking component. A flexible member, positioned in the pathway, is deflected by a moving sheet of media to be printed by the marking component. A sensor system outputs a signal in response to a detected deflection of the flexible member. A weight output component outputs a weight-related value for the sheet based on the output signal. The weight-related value may correspond to one of a predefined set of print media weight ranges, each range associated with one or more respective settings for the printing device. An adjustment component adjusts the settings of the printing device based on the weight-related value. This allows the printing device to respond dynamically to changes in print media weight without the need to be provided with the weight of the print media currently installed in the printer by a user.

Scanning devices include an input tray shaped to hold scannable items before scanning, an output tray shaped to hold the scannable items after scanning, a series of opposing belts positioned to transport the scannable items from the input tray to the output tray, and a round roller contacting a drum belt of the opposing belts. The opposing belts are positioned to have each of the scannable items constantly be held between the opposing belts or between the round roller and the drum belt of the opposing belts while the opposing belts are transporting the scannable items from the input tray to the output tray. A scanner is positioned in a gap between two of the opposing belts, and the gap is in a process direction that the opposing belts are moving the scannable items.

Printing apparatuses include, among other components, a media path transporting sheets of print media in a process direction. A transfer station is located at a first location of the media path, and a fusing station is located at a second location of the media path (the second location is closer to the end of the media path (in the process direction) relative to the first location). Also, a single blower is located adjacent the fusing station, and two outlets receive air from the single blower. A first outlet (of the two outlets) provides air to the transfer station to reduce the temperature of the transfer station, and a second outlet (of the two outlets) is located between the transfer station and the fusing station and directs the sheets of print media toward one side of the media path.

Various methods and devices maintain a registration nip and a transfer nip at the same sheet feeding speed when the leading edge of a sheet is between them. These methods and devices create a buckle in the sheet by increasing the sheet feeding speed of the registration nip while maintaining the transfer nip at the original sheet feeding speed during a first portion of when the sheet is simultaneously within the registration nip and the transfer nip. Such methods and devices then decrease the sheet feeding speed of the registration nip after creating the amount of buckle in the sheet and maintain the registration nip and the transfer nip at the same sheet feeding speed to maintain that specific amount of buckle in the sheet during the remaining portion of when the sheet is simultaneously within the registration nip and the transfer nip.

A method, non-transitory computer readable medium, and apparatus for aligning a bias transfer roll are disclosed. For example, the method detects a position of a paper, determines a position of the bias transfer roll, calculates an offset between the position of the paper and the position of the bias transfer roll and moves the bias transfer roll laterally by an amount of the offset to align the bias transfer roll to the paper.

A sheet feeder apparatus comprises a roller feeding sheets of media in a process direction, and a transparent platen positioned after the roller in the process direction. A scanner is positioned on the scanner side of the transparent platen, and a calibration strip is positioned on the sheet side of the transparent platen. The roller feeds the sheets of media over the sheet side of the transparent platen and the calibration strip. The calibration strip has a curved end surface having outer ends and a center. The center of the curved end surface is between the outer ends of the curved end surface in a cross-process direction. The cross-process direction is perpendicular to the process direction. The center of the curved end surface extends further in the process direction relative to the outer ends of the curved end surface.

In accordance with one aspect of the present exemplary embodiment, a system transports paper to prevent stubbing within a printing machine. The paper path facilitates transport of one or more sheets of paper from the first end to the second end, each sheet of paper has a leading edge. A first entry point is located between the first end and the second end that allows one or more sheets to enter the paper path in succession. A first nip is adjacent to the first entry point to direct the leading edge of the one or more sheets away from the first entry point. A second entry point is located a distance from the first entry point that allows one or more sheets to enter the paper path. A second nip is adjacent to the second entry point to direct the leading edge of the one or more sheets away from the second entry point. A gateless diverter directs the one or more sheets of paper through the paper path which includes a convex section that is adjacent to a concave section to divert the leading edge of each of the one or more sheets away from the first entry point and the second entry point. The one or more sheets of paper are advanced to the convex section via the first nip in advance to the concave section to the second nip.
