An aluminum alloy for the manufacture of semi-finished products or components of motor vehicles, a method for the manufacture of a strip made of an aluminum alloy according to the invention, a corresponding aluminum alloy strip or sheet as well as a structural component of a motor vehicle consisting of an aluminum alloy sheet which includes the following alloy components in % by weight: 0.6%&#x2264;Si&#x2264;0.9%, 0.6%&#x2264;Fe&#x2264;1.0%, Cu&#x2264;0.1%, 0.6%&#x2264;Mn&#x2264;0.9%, 0.5%&#x2264;Mg&#x2264;0.8%, Cr&#x2264;0.05%, the remainder Al and impurities, individually up to a maximum of 0.05% by weight, in total up to a maximum of 0.15% by weight.

The invention relates to a method for thermally treating an aluminium workpiece, comprising the steps of providing an aluminium workpiece, which is essentially in the Tstructural state, and exposing a first portion of the workpiece to a first precipitation hardening process by artificial ageing to change the structural state of the first portion of the workpiece, wherein a part of the workpiece is actively cooled during the first precipitation hardening process, so that a second portion of the workpiece essentially remains in the same structural state during the first precipitation hardening process. The invention further relates to an apparatus for thermally treating an aluminium workpiece and to an aluminium workpiece, especially producible with a method according to the invention.
