A low-pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp has a lamp envelope enclosing, in a gastight manner, a discharge space provided with a filling of mercury and a rare gas. The lamp envelope includes electrodes for maintaining a discharge in the discharge space. The lamp envelope transmits UV-light and is made of a black glass component. The composition of the black glass component is free of PbO and comprises, expressed as a percentage by weight, the following constituents: 65-70% by weight of SiO, 1.4-2.2% by weight of LiO, 1.5-2.5% by weight of NaO, 11-13% by weight of KO, 1.8-2.6% by weight of MgO, 2.5-5% by weight of CaO, 2-3.5% by weight of SrO, 8-9.5% by weight of BaO, 0.2-0.4% by weight of CoO, and 1.7-3.25% by weight of NiO.

Low-pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp and apparatus for treatment

The invention relates to electric lamps and more particularly to automotive signal lamps. A glass composition is described for use in electric lamps, which glass is red colored. The glass composition comprises copper between 0.1 and 2% by weight, tin between 0.1 and 2% by weight, barium between 7 and 11% by weight, and strontium between 1 and 5% by weight.

Preferably, the composition of the glass comprises: 65&#x2013;70 wt. % SiO, 1.4&#x2013;2.2 wt. % LiO, 1.5&#x2013;2.5 wt. % NaO, 11&#x2013;12.3 wt. % KO, 1.8&#x2013;2.6 wt. % MgO, 2.5&#x2013;5 wt. % CaO, 2&#x2013;3.5 wt. % SrO, 8&#x2013;9.5 wt. % BaO. The glass is preferably used as a CFL-envelope glass or as glass for a stem. The electric lamp made with a glass according to the invention has favorable fusion and processing properties, in particular a liquidus temperature T&#x2266;800&#xb0; C.
