A diamond turning station having a drum able to be rotated about an axis C and a diamond tip. A piece to be machined P is installed on the drum as follows: the piece to be machined P is offset by a distance D from the rotation axis of the drum; the piece to be machined P is placed so that there is a mean angle Theta between the axis C and a cutting profile corresponding to the active surfaces, the angle Theta being as follows: Theta=arccos (D/Ry), where Ry is a radius of curvature required in the long direction of the microstructures. Next, the diamond tip is moved along the cutting profile of the microstructures, while actuating the rotation of the drum, so as to machine all the microstructures on the surface of the piece to be machined P.

Method for manufacturing a set of optical guide microstructures

A system includes a transparent rod, a light guide assembly, and first and second transparent monolithic optical parts (TMOPs) having the same refractive index. The first TMOP has a first surface having two prism arrays separated by a flat surface having a partially reflective coating, and an opposite second flat surface. Each prism array has two prisms having first and second surfaces oblique to each other. The prism arrays' first surfaces have a partially reflective coating contrary to the second surfaces. The second TMOP has a surface having a geometrically complementary shape relative to the first TMOP first surface's shape and has an opposite second flat surface. When assembled using a first optically transparent adhesive, the first and second TMOPs' second surfaces are parallel. The rod has a partially reflective gradient coating on one surface where it's assembled with the light guide assembly using a second optically transparent adhesive.

A light guide includes a first and second transparent monolithic optical parts (TMOP). The first TMOP has a first surface having two sets with one flat surface followed by one prism array. Each flat surface has a partially-reflective coating, and the first TMOP has a flat opposite second surface. Each prism array has two prisms having a first and a second surfaces which are oblique to each other and to the first TMOP's opposite second surface. The prism arrays first surfaces have a partially-reflective coating. The second TMOP has a first surface with a geometrically complementary shape relative to the shape of the first TMOP's first surface, and has a flat opposite second surface. The first and second TMOPs are assembled together using an optically transparent adhesive material, such that the second surfaces of the first and second TMOP of the light guide assembly are parallel to each other.
