A coolant distribution manifold assembly for use in a module or circuit pack of an optical networking system, including: a body defining a main inlet port at one end, a main outlet port at another end, and a plurality of cooling plate inlet ports and cooling plate outlet ports disposed between the main inlet port and the main outlet port; where the body further defines an upper internal plenum and a lower internal plenum each coupled to one of the main inlet port and the plurality of cooling plate inlet ports and the main outlet port and the plurality of cooling plate outlet ports. Optionally, the upper internal plenum and the lower internal plenum each have a variable cross-sectional area along a length of the body between the main inlet port and the main outlet port.

A telecommunications and networking equipment housing including: a body defining a slot adapted to receive a shelf; and an adjustable key component coupled to the body and defining a channel adapted to receive a fixed key component coupled to the shelf, wherein the channel is movable between a first location and a second location along a front edge of the slot. The fixed key component coupled to the shelf is aligned with the channel defined by the adjustable key component in either the first location or the second location. The adjustable key component is translatable along the front edge of the slot such that the channel is movable between the first location and the second location.

A network device includes a support structure configured to support communication equipment, the support structure including at least a non-conductive vertical substrate, a pair of conductive strips arranged on a front-facing surface of the non-conductive vertical substrate and configured in electrical communication with a power source, and one or more alignment blocks, where each of the one or more alignment blocks includes a touch-proof cage configuration that has spacing dimensions configured to prevent a normal-sized human finger from contacting the pair of conductive strips to reduce the risk of electric shock. Each of the one or more alignment blocks includes slots configured to guide one or more power connectors of a circuit board for making electrical contact with the pair of conductive strips when the circuit board is installed on the support structure.

A network element incudes a shelf including a main backplane having a busbar system thereon, wherein the shelf supports any of port modules and switch modules, wherein the modules interconnect to one another via cables; extension brackets configured to connect to one of a top and a bottom of the shelf; and a power shelf configured to connect to the extension brackets, wherein the power shelf supports one or more power modules; wherein the power shelf is configured at a top of the shelf when the shelf is located, in any of a rack, frame, and cabinet, above another shelf, and wherein the power shelf is configured at a bottom of the shelf when the shelf is located below the another shelf.

A network element include one or more modules each supporting one or more pluggable modules; and a first manifold and a second manifold each configured to connect to a conduit associated with a coldplate, wherein one of the first manifold and the second manifold is an inlet manifold and the other is an outlet manifold for a cooling fluid that flows through the conduit to cool the one or more pluggable modules. The one or more pluggable modules can be each a pluggable optical module that is one of compliant to any of XFP, SFP, XENPAK, X2, CFP, CFP2, CFP4, CFP8, QSFP, QSFP+, QSFP28, OSFP, and QSFP-DD and have a housing that has dimensions similar to any of XFP, SFP, XENPAK, X2, CFP, CFP2, CFP4, CFP8, QSFP, QSFP+, QSFP28, OSFP, and QSFP-DD.

Liquid cooling high-density pluggable modules for a network element

A pluggable module for use in a networking system includes a body with an electrical interface configured to be inserted into networking equipment; a head connected to the body and including a handle; and a light pipe with an entry in or near the body, the light pipe configured to provide light from inside the body to the handle. The body can include a light source directed towards the entry. The light source can be a Light Emitting Diode (LED). Advantageously, this disclosure provides an ability to support status lights in a very small surface area on a pluggable module.

A module for multiple network pluggable optics is disclosed. The module includes a Printed Circuit Board (PCB); a faceplate connected to the PCB; a plurality of cage assemblies connected to the PCB, each cage assembly is configured to receive a pluggable optical module via a corresponding opening in the faceplate; and a shared heat exchanger that is integrally formed and substantially covers the plurality of cage assemblies, wherein the shared heat exchanger is configured to cool multiple pluggable optics in the plurality of cage assemblies.

Protection elements are provided for protecting optical networking systems during shipment. In one implementation, a system includes a card having one or more sockets, each socket having a connector device. The system also includes a pluggable module having an interface configured to connect with the connector device of a respective socket when the pluggable module is fully seated in the socket. A first protection element is configured to be held in place near a front edge of the socket. The first protection element is configured to allow the pluggable module to be arranged in a partially inserted position within the socket. Also, the first protection element is further configured to block the pluggable module from being fully seated in the socket to thereby prevent the interface of the pluggable module from contacting the connector device of the socket.

Protection elements used for shipping optical networking equipment

Power supply systems are provided for carrying electrical power from a power source to a circuit board mounted on a housing, shelf, cabinet, etc. for supporting networking equipment. A busbar assembly, according to one embodiment, includes a pair of conductive strips configured to carry electrical power. The pair of conductive strips are arranged on a front-facing surface of a non-conductive vertical substrate. The busbar assembly further includes one or more alignment blocks configured to hold the pair of conductive strips in a fixed position with respect to the non-conductive vertical substrate. Each of the one or more alignment blocks is configured to guide a pair of power connectors of a circuit board for making electrical contact with the pair of conductive strips, while allowing simultaneous mating of signal connectors on the circuit board with signal connectors on the substrate, when the circuit board is being installed in a housing.

A platform includes a housing with a front side, a rear side opposite the front side, a right side adjacent to both the front side and the rear side, and a left side opposite the right side and adjacent to both the front side and the rear side, wherein airflow in the platform is between the front side and the rear side or between the front side and the front side; one or more modules in the housing each including a plurality of cages supporting removable interface cards, wherein the airflow includes an air path that is over the one or more modules between a bottom portion of the one or more modules and a top portion of the one or more modules; and at least one dust cap in one of the plurality of cages, wherein the dust cap includes an air filter medium enabling airflow at an intermediate point of the air path.

High-density network element cooling via unequipped pluggable optical module cages

A module for multiple network pluggable optics is disclosed. The module includes a faceplate, a plurality of cage assemblies, and a plurality of springs. The faceplate includes a front face, a first wall extending from the front face, the first wall including a heat exchanger, and a second wall extending from the front face, the second wall being offset from the first wall. The plurality of cage assemblies is positioned at least partially within a volume defined by the front face and the first and second walls. Each cage assembly is configured to receive a pluggable optical module. The plurality of springs are configured with one or more springs positioned between each cage assembly and the second wall to push the plurality of cage assemblies towards the first wall such that each pluggable optical module received into one of the plurality of cage assemblies is pressed against the heat exchanger.

A network device includes a shelf configured to support interface cards on a front side; a control module including a first frame and a printed circuit board disposed to the first frame, wherein the control module is configured to connect on a rear side of the shelf; and a cooling module including a second frame and cooling fans disposed to the second frame, wherein the second frame is configured slidingly connect to the first frame on the rear side of the shelf.

Systems and methods for a hybrid control and cooling module with an independently removable cooling section for a network device. A control module for a network device includes a frame. A printed circuit board is disposed on the frame. Connectors are configured to operably connect the printed circuit board to mid-plane connectors of a shelf of a network device. A control module mounting system is disposed on the frame and is configured to slidably mount the control module to a shelf of a network device. A cooling module guidance system is disposed on the frame and is configured to slidably mount thereon a cooling module for a network device.

Systems and method for managing cables in a front-to-rear air-cooled housing of a networking system are provided, whereby airflow is controlled to flow through an air filter. According to one embodiment, a network element configured as a cable gate includes a brush and a frame having at least one slot. Each slot is configured to join an interior space of a housing with an exterior space outside the housing. The brush has bristles covering, in an unbiased condition, the at least one slot to reduce air flow between the interior space and the exterior space. The bristles are configured to be displaceable to enable cables to extend through the at least one slot.

A tool for insertion and extraction of optical fibers includes an elongated handle, a generally C-shaped cradle element at a first end of the elongated handle, a generally L-shaped hook element at a second end of the elongated handle having a long section connected to the elongated handle parallel to a longitudinal axis of the elongated handle and a short section perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the elongated handle, and a generally U-shaped notch formed in the second end of the elongated handle. The tool is configured to facilitate the remote insertion and removal of an optical cable into an optical port of a device, such as a networking or telecommunications device. Various embodiments allow for the remote disengagement and removal of an SFP module from a device, such as a networking or telecommunications device.
