A process for the production of acetic acid, which process comprises contacting ethane and/or ethylene with a molecular oxygen-containing gas in a fluid bed reactor in the presence of a microspheroidal fluidised particulate solid oxidation catalyst, wherein at least 90% of said catalyst particles are less than 300 microns.

The catalyst composition may be used in the production of acetic acid and in an integrated process for the production of acetic acid and/or vinyl acetate.

Catalyst and process for the oxidation of ethane and/or ethylene

In a process for production of vinyl acetate in which ethylene, liquid acetic acid and an oxygen-containing gas are fed to a fluid bed reactor containing a catalyst comprising a Group VIII metal, a promoter and a co-promoter, stickiness of the catalyst is reduced by limiting the amount of co-promoter to up to 6% by weight of the catalyst.

In a process for the production of vinyl acetate by reacting ethylene, acetic acid and an oxygen-containing gas in a reactor to produce a process stream which is removed from the reactor as an outlet stream, the process is improved by maintaining the oxygen concentration of the outlet stream at or near its flammability limit.

Controlling product stream oxygen content in process for the production of vinyl acetate

Process for the production of vinyl acetate in which ethylene, acid and oxygen-containing gas are combined at elevated temperature in the presence of a catalyst material to produce (i) a product mixture comprising vinyl acetate, (ii) a liquid by-product comprising acetic acid and (iii) a gaseous by-product comprising carbon dioxide. The liquid by-product is separated from the product mixture and treated to reduce the water content therein before being recycled to the reactor such that the water entering the reactor comprises less than 6 wt %, (preferably less than 4 wt %, more preferably less than 3 wt %) of the total of acetic acid and water entering the reactor.

A process for the production of vinyl acetate which comprises reacting at elevated temperature in a fluid bed reactor ethylene, acetic acid and an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of a fluid bed catalyst material wherein a liquid is introduced into the fluidised bed reactor for the purpose of removing heat therefrom by evaporation of the liquid.

Process for the acetoxylation of olefins

In a process for the preparation of palladium and palladium/gold shell type catalysts for vinyl acetate production, the improvement comprises using a barium salt to precipitate water-insoluble palladium and optional gold compounds onto a support prior to reduction with a reducing agent. A barium salt additive may also be introduced to the catalyst after reduction to reduce the tendency of the catalyst to deactivate with use.
