A method of validating resolution of a problem at a media terminal is described. The method comprises accessing a file including a task; identifying a plurality of specific actions to be taken to perform the task; and ascertaining each event that would be triggered by the media terminal when each identified specific action is performed correctly. The method further comprises: displaying the identified specific actions to a service engineer; and transmitting a validation message to a remote management system when all ascertained events have been triggered in response to the service engineer performing the identified specific actions correctly.

A self-service terminal comprises at least one customer transaction module, a terminal controller, a management component, and a network connection coupled to the terminal controller. A method is describe of predicting the probable future condition of one or more components within an apparatus comprising a plurality of sensors arranged to monitor the operation of components of the apparatus and a control means arranged to receive said information from said plurality of sensors. The apparatus comprises a plurality of sensors arranged to monitor the operation of components of the apparatus and a control means arranged to receive said information from said plurality of sensors. The method comprises analysing said sensor information in the form of an error log to ascertain sensor patterns from said sensor information comparing said sensor patterns with detectors, which are predefined patterns, indicative of the condition of said one or more components within the apparatus and classifying said sensor patterns as being indicative of said error state of a component or not based upon a comparison of sensor patterns with said detectors.

The source of the marking fluid is identified based on a match between the detected photoluminescent emission and at least one of the pre-defined photoluminescent signatures.

The encrypted template, a key share, and a user identifierare then combined to give an identification string. A number of stringsare then stored on separate terminalsof a terminal network. To decrypt the template, a user offers their identifierto a terminal. The required number of identification stringshaving that identifierare retrieved from their respective terminalson the network, and the key sharescombined to generate a keywhich is then used to decrypt the template. The decrypted templatemay then be used to verify the identity of the user. Using the present method, neither the unencrypted template nor the complete decryption key are transferred across the network, so improving security.

A method of determining a component of a medium comprises illuminating the medium to excite a marker associated with the component. Detected photoluminescent emission from the marker in response to the excitation is compared with one or more emission profiles. The component is identified based on a match between the detected photoluminescent emission and at least one of the emission profiles.
