A vein filter can switch from a collapsed state to a deployed filtering state and further from this filtering state to an open non-filtering state. The filter includes a plurality of primary filter legs and a plurality of secondary filter legs. The primary filter legs are grouped at one end in a common filter head. One secondary filter leg is connected to each of the primary filter legs in proximity of the filter head. Each secondary filter leg is connected to the adjacent primary leg to which it is not already fixed in proximity of the filter head by a connecting wire attached in the area of the free ends of the legs.

The invention relates to a safety cartridge () for a removable vena cava filter (), having a proximal end () and a distal end () and having an inner channel () extending between the ends. The cartridge is characterized in that it comprises, on the distal end () thereof, a linking device () for forming a link with a catheter () and, in the inner channel thereof, a projection () having a limited size in the axial direction of the cartridge () so as to locally reduce the cross-section of the channel ().

Safety cartridge for a removable vena cava filter

A needle has a distal end, a proximal end, and a stem extending there between, as well as a tip at the distal end. The needle is provided with a safety device being arranged so as to be capable of sliding over the stem and a second position at the distal end of the stem. The safety device also includes a recess having a proximal opening and a distal opening for the needle stem to pass there through, the tip of the needle being inside the recess when the safety device is in the second position. The device includes a closing device that closes the distal opening of the recess when the needle tip is inside the recess.

Vascular protection system comprising a radially expandable filtering element () permeable to blood but impermeable to embolic materials, comprising a membrane (') linked to a hollow support structure made up of a succession of wires (). The support structure comprises at least two groups () of wires, each having more than two mutually adjacent wires, these groups being parted at a point on the length of the wires so that at least some of the wires within one of the groups part from one another, after which, farther along this length, the wires of a specific group which part from at least some of the other wires of this same group rejoin at least one wire of (one of) the other group(s) of wires.

Vascular protection system

A covered self-expanding vascular occlusion device and a method of making and using the device. The device comprises a braided wire member with at least two axially spaced securing members affixed to the braided wire member and a thin film covering at least half of the device. The braided member can be moved between a larger diameter ball-like shape or conical shape in its relaxed position, and a smaller diameter cylindrical shape in its stretched position. The film covering is applied to the device by first stretching a portion of film to form a shape similar to a portion of a device to be covered by the film, then inserting the device into the shape formed in the film so that the film covers at least half of the device, and trimming the film to separate the covered device from the remaining film. The device is used by installing it on the end of a tubular introducer where it is held in its relaxed position until needed. A sliding member inside of the introducer tube then pulls the device into the tube, moving the device to its stretched position as it does so. The sliding member is pulled out of the tube, releasing the device and leaving it inside of the tube and in its stretched condition. The tube is installed in a catheter, and the device pushed from the tube into, through, and out of the catheter where upon exiting the catheter the device then opens to its relaxed condition, lodges in the blood vessel, and immediately and completely occludes the vessel.

A covered self-expanding vascular occlusion device and a method of making and using the device. The invention is an assembly for positioning an implant that has an axis and at least one axial tubular region having an inside diameter. More specifically, the assembly positions the implant into an internal passageway in a body, such as a blood vessel. The assembly has two removable elements, both having a predetermined cross-section. At the distal end of the first element of the assembly is a lateral protuberance having a radial length. The assembly is further characterized in that the cumulative cross-section dimension of the two elements away from their distal ends and the radial length of the lateral protuberance are both smaller than the inside diameter of the axial tubular region of the implant.

Assembly for positioning an implant in an internal passageway of a body

An introducer for introducing an expandable implantable device into a catheter includes an outer tube and an inner core which slides in the outer tube. A first end of the core has a tubular configuration with a slit which allows it to expand radially to grip an end of the device. The first end of the core holding the device is pulled into a first end of the outer tube which further tightens the grip on the device. The second end of the core, which extends beyond the second end of the outer tube, may have a handle attached or be bent to prevent the core from moving and releasing the device. The core preferably has a metal wire inside of it. The device remains in its relaxed condition attached to the introducer at the first end of the outer tube and mostly outside of it until use. The outer tube may have a rigid transparent cup-shaped shield member attached at its first end and extending beyond it to protect the device and allow the device to be viewed on the introducer. To use the introducer and the device, the core is slid relative to the outer tube which pulls the device inside the outer tube and into its stretched condition. As the first end of the inner core exits the second end of the outer tube, the end of the device is released and remains mostly inside of the outer tube in its stretched condition. An end of the outer tube is then inserted into a catheter and a pushrod used to push the device from the introducer into the catheter.

Introducer for an expandable vascular occlusion device

An introducer for introducing an expandable implantable device into a catheter includes an outer tube and an inner core which slides in the outer tube. The distal end of the core has a tubular configuration with a slit which allows it to expand radially to grip an end of the device. The distal end of the core holding the device is pulled into the distal end of the outer tube which further tightens the grip on the device. A handle is then preferably attached to the proximal end of the core which extends beyond the proximal end of the outer tube to prevent the core from moving distally and releasing the device. The device remains in its relaxed condition attached to the introducer and mostly outside of it until use. At that time the core is moved proximally which pulls the device inside the outer tube and into its stretched condition as it does so. As the distal end of the inner core exits the proximal end of the outer tube, the end of the device is released and remains mostly inside of the outer tube in its stretched condition. The distal end of the introducer is then inserted into a catheter and a pushrod used to push the device distally from the introducer into the catheter.
