In one aspect the invention discloses an improved gas burner with a high turn-down ratio. The improved burner includes first and second gas flow passages, a flame front locator in one of the passages of the burner cap. Fuel gas is injected into an end of one of the passages and is ignited to establish a flame at the flame front locator. Secondary combustion air is provided through the other of the passages which on a high setting enables secondary combustion and on a low setting may mix with the hot gases and cool them resulting in a lower temperature at the cooking vessel.

Gas heating appliance

In one aspect the invention discloses a gas cooktop which is relatively easy to clean and which is not visually complex. The gas cooktop surface is provided with a trivet having two operating conditions. In a first condition the trivet is retracted and is substantially flush with the cooktop surface. In a second condition the trivet is extended to support a cooking vessel above a gas burner. In another aspect the invention discloses an improved gas burner with a high turn-down ratio. A status indicator ( ) for a transparent ceramic glass cook top is disclosed which is able to display a range of colors. Typically such indications are used with red or smoked glass cooktops and are limited to red. The present invention is positioned directly underneath the transparent glass ( ) which has an opaque layer ( ) on the underside and wherein a portion ( ) of the opaque layer has been removed thereby allowing the light source ( ) to be visible directly above said cook top. The indicator may be used for a range of functions, including indicating the element is on and also that the heating region is too hot to be safely touched.

Cook top status indicator

A valve ( ) for controlling gas flow for a gas heating which allows, as different embodiments, (1) A gradual and smooth transition from high flow to low flow. This is achieved by a rotatable control means ( ) wherein the valve body or control means has a taping groove ( ) on an annular path intersecting with a port to allow variation in flow rate as the control means rotates. (2) The ganging together into modular form of several valve units with the inlet ports forming a common inlet manifold. (3) The control means, at least, is a plastic, eg nylon. (4) The switching to off from either high or low flow is allowed. But the switching from off to on is directly to high flow. The switching from off to on is prevented from going to low flow directly
