A ceramic femoral resurfacing head prosthesis () comprises a ceramic convex outer contact surface () engagable with an acetabulum of a patient or an acetabular cup prosthesis and a concave inner fixation surface () having an inner-land portion (), the ceramic convex outer contact surface () and the concave inner fixation surface () extending to intersect each other at a rim (). A ceramic stem () projects from the concave inner fixation surface (), and is adapted to be received by a stem bore. The concave inner fixation surface () includes a skirt () which is cylindrical or substantially cylindrical, or frusto-conical or substantially frusto-conical, and at least one circumferentially elongate recess () at the skirt ().

Ceramic femoral resurfacing head prosthesis

An impactor head () for releasably holding an outer surface () of a cup implant (), comprises a head body (), at least one rotatable implant-engagement arm () which is also at least in part linearly translatable, and an actuation mechanism () which moves the implant-engagement arm () to an implant-engagement condition and an implant-release condition.

Prosthesis impactor assembly

A ceramic acetabular cup devoid of a separate liner comprises a part-spherical inner articulating surface and an outer surface. An inner radius at or adjacent to a rim of the cup extends to or adjacent to a surface edge of the inner articulating surface. An inner radius of the inner articulating surface defines an active arc, and an uppermost portion of the rim defines an offset datum plane. An offset is provided between an equatorial centre of the inner articulating surface and the offset datum plane. The active arc extends in a range from around 150 degrees to less than 180 degrees, and a distance between the inner articulating surface and outer surface on a straight line from the said equatorial centre and passing through the surface edge is equal to or less than 4 mm.

A bone tapping kit for cutting an internal thread into bone defining a bore. The kit comprises 1) a guide component with a threaded aperture which, when in position, is aligned with the bore, and 2) a tap having a first portion with a first diameter and an external thread designed to engage with the threaded aperture of the guide component, and a second portion having a second diameter which is smaller than the first diameter and a helical cutting edge designed so that it can be received into the bore and cut an internal thread therein. The guide component and tap are dimensioned so that when the tap is introduced into the guide component the first portion engages with the threaded aperture in the guide component before the helical cutting edge of the second portion engages with the bore. Thus, the thread configuration that is cut into the bore forms a continuation of the same helix defined by the internal thread of the aperture of the guide member.

Prosthetic cup

A pedicle attachment assembly includes a pedicle attachment device having a head. A polyaxial housing has a through bore comprising a base portion and two posts upstanding from the base portion, the posts defining therebetween a slot for receiving a rod. A saddle-shaped element is disposable in the slot and has a part cylindrical recess in an upper surface for engagement in use with the rod. The saddle-shaped element has a convex lower portion for engagement in a complimentary concave recess in an upper surface of the head of the attachment device. The lower surface of the head of the attachment device and the lower end of the through bore in the housing have complementary part spherical surfaces for engagement with one another. A cap assembly is provided for clamping the rod in the housing.

Pedicle attachment assembly

A surgical implant, typically a cervical plate assembly, comprises a plate having at least two apertures and two screw threaded fastening devices for securing the plate to bone. Each aperture in the plate has an annular groove intermediate opposite ends of the aperture and each fastening device comprises an outer screw and an inner plug. The screw has a head at one end, a tip at the other end, an externally threaded shank between the head and the tip and an internal bore extending axially through the head and at least part way into the shank for receiving the inner plug. The head comprises a plurality of resiliently deformable fingers separated by one another by axially extending slits. Each finger has an outwardly projecting rib extending circumferentially of the head intermediate opposite ends of the finger for snap fit engagement in the annular groove of a respective plate aperture. The inner plug is arranged so that when it is inserted into the internal bore of the screw it will prevent contraction of the head of the screw thereby preventing the ribs disengaging from the groove.
