The present invention provides methods, devices, and systems that provide the ability to playback multiple VoIP audio streams simultaneously with a single RTP session and further provides the ability to conference all streams together prior to transmission. More specifically, the present invention focuses on the transport layer and sample-based multiplexing employed to provide this capability.

Signal periodicity is determined by estimating the pitch period () of the signal, determining a gain value of the signal over the pitch period as a function of the estimated pitch period, and estimating a periodicity of the signal over the pitch period as a function of the estimated pitch period and the gain value. A recently received portion of a transmit signal is utilized, and a pitch period of the received signal is determined. Then, the determined pitch period is utilized to search for similarities in the originally transmitted signal. This searching is done over a range of delays. The filter () is a Kalman filter and has both a current slowly evolving filter estimate output () and a previous slowly evolving filter estimate output (). The current slowly evolving filter estimate output () provides a current filtered estimate value of a slowly evolving component of said sequence of input vectors (yto y) and the previous slowly evolving filter estimate output () provides a previous filtered estimate value of the slowly evolving component of said sequence of input vectors (yto y). There is also a parameter estimator () having an estimator vector input () for receiving said sequence of input vectors (yto y) and a previous slowly evolving filter estimate input () coupled to the previous slowly evolving filter estimate output (). The parameter estimator further includes a predictor gain output coupled () to the predictor gain input (). In operation, when the vector estimation system () receives a current input vector that is one of the sequence of said input vectors (yto y), the parameter estimator () provides a current predictor gain value at the predictor gain output () thereby modifying the current filtered estimate value. The current predictor gain value is dependent upon both the previous filtered estimate value and the current input vector.

Vector estimation system, method and associated encoder

Echo detection and monitoring systems and methods are provided. According to the invention, the outgoing and incoming voice bearer channels of a voice communication are monitored. The outgoing and incoming signals are time aligned, and measures are then taken to determine whether echo is present in the signal. In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, the outgoing signal is fed through an adaptive filter.
