The invention relates to a wellbore-lining tubing comprising at least one window pre-formed in the wall of the tubing and a device for selectively generating a fluid pressure pulse, and to a method of forming a lateral wellbore employing such a tubing. In an embodiment, a wellbore-lining tubing () is disclosed which comprises: a tubing wall (), an internal fluid flow passage (), and at least one window () pre-formed in the wall of the tubing; a device () for selectively generating a fluid pressure pulse, the device located at least partly in a space () provided in the wall of the tubing; and a coupling () for receiving a deflection tool () so that the deflection tool can be secured to the tubing and employed to divert a downhole component () through the window in the tubing wall.

Downhole apparatus, device, assembly and method

A downhole assembly includes an apparatus for generating a fluid pressure pulse downhole. A disclosed apparatus for generating a fluid pressure pulse downhole includes an elongate, generally tubular housing defining an internal fluid flow passage and having a housing wall. The apparatus also includes a device for selectively generating a fluid pressure pulse, the device having a cartridge which can be releasably mounted entirely within a space provided in the wall of the tubular housing. The internal fluid flow passage defined by the tubular housing is a primary fluid flow passage. A secondary fluid flow passage has an inlet which communicates with the primary fluid flow passage. The cartridge houses a valve actuable to control fluid flow through the secondary fluid flow passage to selectively generate a fluid pressure pulse. Data relating to a measured downhole parameter or parameters can be transmitted to surface via the pressure pulses.

A downhole tool for generating a fluid pressure pulse, and to a method of generating a fluid pressure pulse downhole. One example being, an improved downhole tool and method for transmitting data signals from a downhole environment to surface, the downhole tool comprising a fluid actuated flow restrictor; a first fluid flow path for flow of actuating fluid to actuate the flow restrictor; a second fluid flow path for flow of actuating fluid to actuate the flow restrictor; and a control member movable between a first closed position where the first fluid flow path is closed and the second fluid flow path is open, and a discrete second closed position where the first fluid flow path is open and the second fluid flow path is closed, for controlling actuation of the flow restrictor to generate a fluid pressure pulse.

Downhole tool and method

There is disclosed an electrically insulating device in the form of a sleeve () for a downhole tool, for electrically insulating a first threaded electrically conductive member in the form of an anchor sub () from a second threaded electrically conductive member in the form of an insulated sub (). An assembly () including the sleeve () has particular use in measurement while drilling (MWD)/logging while drilling (LWD) procedures. In one embodiment, a third member in the form of a threaded electrically conductive sleeve sub () is coupled to the insulated sub by a second sleeve (), to create an insulated gap between the anchor and sleeve subs ().

Insulating device and assembly

A hydraulically operated setting tool for use in setting a plug or other component in a wellbore, and which is responsive to a supply of input actuating pressure to actuate the tool. An elongate tool housing has an inlet to receive the supply of actuating pressure, and an actuator element is axially displaceable relative to housing and also engageable with the plug or other component to set and release the component with respect to the wellbore. A pressure multiplier arrangement includes a hydraulically operated low pressure and high volume output piston which performs initial loading of the tool, and a high pressure, low volume output piston which provides a multiplied hydraulic force applied to the actuator element to set the plug or other component in a required position in the wellbore.

A running tool which is intended to be lowered down a tubular member via a wireline extending from the surface to a connection to the upper end of the tool by which the tool is suspended, said tool being capable of advancing itself along the wall of the tubular member when required (e.g. when the tubular member is inclined to the vertical as a &ldquo;lateral&rdquo;), by repeated application and release of tension force in the wireline.

A safety module which is intended to be used in an oil or gas production installation and to be lowered to a required depth with an electrically operable tool connected thereto, and which comprises a housing (2), a pressure sensitive switch (3) and a temperature sensitive switch in the housing which are adapted to switch at predetermined pressure and temperature values respectively, in which the pressure sensitive switch and the temperature sensitive switch only allow an electrical command signal to be conveyed to the tool when the pressure and temperature both reach the predetermined pressure and temperature values.
