A circuit includes first and second signal networks, a driver circuit, and a bypass circuit. The driver circuit generates a first signal based on a second signal during a normal mode. The second signal is received from the first signal network. The bypass circuit is coupled to the driver circuit to provide a third signal generated based on the first signal to the second signal network during the normal mode. The bypass circuit receives a fourth signal from the first signal network during a test mode. The bypass circuit generates a fifth signal based on the fourth signal. The fifth signal is provided to the second signal network during the test mode. The bypass circuit prevents the driver circuit from driving a signal to the second signal network during the test mode.

Techniques for bypassing circuits during tests

A first trimming capacitor having a first terminal and a second terminal is coupled in parallel between a first terminal and a second terminal of a first capacitor. The first trimming capacitor comprises a first plurality of switched capacitors having different capacitances coupled in parallel. Each of the switched capacitors comprises a switch capacitor and a switch coupled in series. In an illustrative application the first capacitor and the first trimming capacitor are coupled between an output terminal of an operational amplifier (op-amp) and an inverting input terminal of the op-amp. A second capacitor and a second trimming capacitor similar to the first capacitor and the first trimming capacitor are coupled between an input and the inverting input terminal of the op-amp.

High resolution capacitor

An equalizer circuitry that includes an equalizer stage having a programmable current source is described. In one implementation, the programmable current source cancels voltage offset. Also, in one implementation, the programmable current source is programmable in user mode. Furthermore, in one implementation, the equalizer circuitry includes a plurality of equalizer stages including the equalizer stage having a programmable current source, where the equalizer stage having a programmable current source is a second equalizer stage in the plurality of equalizer stages. Also, in one implementation, the programmable current source includes a plurality of current sources coupled in parallel and a plurality of sets of control switches for controlling the plurality of current sources. Further, in one implementation, each current source of the plurality of current sources includes a transistor and each set of control switches of the plurality of sets of control switches is for controlling a respective current source and includes a pair of transistors for controlling the respective current source.

Offset cancellation in equalizer circuitry

A low-voltage reference circuit may have a pair of semiconductor devices. Each semiconductor device may have an n-type semiconductor region, an n+ region in the n-type semiconductor region, a metal gate, and a gate insulator interposed between the metal gate and the n-type semiconductor region through which carriers tunnel. The metal gate may have a work function matching that of p-type polysilicon. The gate insulator may have a thickness of less than about 25 angstroms. The metal gate may form a first terminal for the semiconductor device and the n+ region and n-type semiconductor region may form a second terminal for the semiconductor device. The second terminals may be coupled to ground. A biasing circuit may use the first terminals to supply different currents to the semiconductor devices and may provide a corresponding reference output voltage at a value that is less than one volt.

Very low voltage reference circuit

Equalization of an incoming data signal can be controlled by sampling that signal at times when data values in that signal should be stable ('data samples') and when that signal should be in transition between successive data values that are different ('transition samples'). A transition sample that has been taken between two successive differently valued data samples is compared to a reference value (which can be one of those two data samples). The result of this comparison can be used as part of a determination as to whether to increase or decrease equalization of the incoming data signal.

Digital adaptation circuitry and methods for programmable logic devices

A programmable logic device is provided with adaptive equalization circuitry that is programmable in one or more respects. Examples of the programmable aspects of the equalization circuitry are (1) the number of taps used, (2) whether integer or fractional spaced taps are used, (3) what starting values are used in the computation of coefficient values, (4) whether satisfactory coefficient values are computed only once or on an on-going basis, (5) whether an error signal is generated using a decision directed algorithm or using a training pattern, (6) what training pattern (if any) is used, and/or (7) the location of the sampling point in the bit period of the signal to be equalized.

Adaptive equalization methods and apparatus for programmable logic devices

Methods and apparatus are provided for generating a clock signal with relatively high bandwidth and relatively low phase noise. A circuit of the invention can include a pair of transistors serially coupled between a signal of relatively high voltage and a source of relatively low voltage, where a voltage of the signal of relatively high voltage can vary according to a voltage of a variable control signal. A gate of one of the pair of transistors can be coupled to an input clock signal, and an output node between the pair of transistors can be coupled to an output clock signal. The circuit can also include a third transistor, whose drain and source are coupled to the output clock signal, and whose gate can be coupled to a gear input signal. This circuit can advantageously operate under at least two different gears, each with different bandwidth and phase noise characteristics.

Voltage-controlled oscillator methods and apparatus

A level shifting circuit with a thin gate transistor connected to the input of the output stage is presented. The level shifting circuit has an input stage that receives an input that is at first voltage. A transistor with a thin gate oxide has one terminal connected to the input stage and another terminal coupled to an input of the output stage. The output stage of the level shifting circuit is implemented with thick gate oxide transistors.

An oscillator circuit includes differential variable delay circuits coupled together to form a ring oscillator. Each of the differential variable delay circuits has first and second inputs and first, second, third, and fourth transistors. A constant supply voltage is provided to sources of the first and the second transistors in each of the differential variable delay circuits. A variable supply voltage is provided to sources of the third and the fourth transistors in each of the differential variable delay circuits. Gates of the first and the third transistors are coupled to the first input. Gates of the second and the fourth transistors are coupled to the second input. The oscillator circuit generates a periodic output signal having a frequency that varies based on changes in the variable supply voltage.

Techniques relating to oscillators

High-speed serial interface ('HSSI') transceiver circuitry (e.g., on a programmable logic device ('PLD') integrated circuit) includes input buffer circuitry with adaptive equalization capability. The transceiver circuitry also includes an output driver, which may include pre-emphasis capability (preferably controllably settable). Selectively usable loop-back circuitry is provided for allowing the output signal of the input buffer to be applied substantially directly to the output driver. The loop-back circuitry may include a loop-back driver, which may be turned on substantially only when needed for loop-back operations.

High-speed serial interface circuitry for programmable logic device integrated circuits

Methods and apparatus are provided for selectively setting a CM voltage for a transceiver, reducing the effect of current mismatch, and generating a voltage step that can be used for receiver detection. A circuit of the invention can include voltage generator circuitry operable to generate a plurality of voltage signals of substantially different voltages. The circuit can also include multiplexer circuitry with voltage inputs coupled to the voltage signals. The multiplexer circuitry can be operable to select a reference signal from among the voltage inputs. In addition, the circuit can include operational amplifier ('op-amp') circuitry with a first input coupled to the reference signal and a second input coupled to an output signal of the op-amp circuitry.

Versatile common-mode driver methods and apparatus

Methods and circuits are presented for providing equalization, including decision feedback equalization (DFE), to high data-rate signals. Half-rate delay-chain circuitry produces delayed samples of an input signal using two or more delay-chain circuits operating at a fraction of the input signal data-rate. Two delay-chain circuits operating at one-half the input signal data-rate may be used. More generally, n delay-chain circuits operating at 1/n the input signal data-rate may be used. Multiplexer circuitry combines the outputs of the delay-chain circuits to produce an output signal including samples of the input signal at the input signal data-rate. Duplicate path DFE circuitry includes two paths used to provide DFE equalization while reducing the load of the DFE circuitry on the circuitry that precedes it. A first path produces delayed samples of a DFE signal, while a second path produces the DFE output signal from the delayed samples.

Signal offset variation caused by transistor variation/mismatch in integrated circuits may be reduced. In one embodiment, a buffer circuit has variable-valued circuit elements. Offset variation measurements are made and the variable-valued circuit elements are calibrated to reduce the measured offset variation. In another embodiment, each amplifying stage of a multi-stage buffer provides variable gain. The total DC gain of the cascade is distributed unevenly across the stages, with more DC gain being provided by amplifier stages at the beginning of the cascade than at the end. An additional pre-amplifier stage can also be provided at the beginning of the cascade.
