A transceiver module includes a receptacle assembly that isolates the signal ground potential at which an opto-electronic subsystem operates from the chassis ground potential at which the transceiver module housing is maintained, while also helping maintain optical alignment of the system elements. The receptacle assembly can include a receptacle made of metal, a coupling made of metal, and a connector made of a dielectric material. The connector is interposed between the receptacle and the coupling to electrically isolate the signal ground potential of the opto-electronic subsystem from the chassis ground potential of the housing and receptacle. As the metal receptacle is mounted in an opening of the housing, it helps shield the housing against EMI.

An auxiliary component such as a bias inductance () associated with a laser source () is mounted generally 'upright', that is with its major dimension substantially orthogonal to the general plane of the submount (S) supporting both the laser () and the auxiliary component (). A transmitter optical sub assembly includes a laser source having associated therewith a laser driver and a package for housing the laser source () and the laser driver. The package includes respective separate compartments for the laser source and the laser driver, wherein a package wall, which is opaque to IR emission, separates the laser source from the laser driver. The laser source and the laser driver are arranged in those separate compartments whereby the laser source is exempt from being directly irradiated by the laser driver.
