A power cable has an insulated conductor; a copper water barrier, in form of a tube with a welding line, surrounding each insulated conductor; and a polymeric sheath surrounding each copper water barrier. The copper water barrier has a thickness and the polymeric sheath has a thickness such that a ratio between the thickness of the copper water barrier and the thickness of the polymeric sheath is 0.15 at most.

Process for manufacturing a power cable includes: providing a power cable core having an electric conductor; providing a copper foil; providing a protective strip over the power cable core, the protective strip having a radially inner and outer surface and being made of copper with a coating; folding the copper foil around the power cable core so as to bring two longitudinal copper foil rims to contact one to the other; welding the two contacted longitudinal copper foil rims thus obtaining a copper sheath in form of a tube with a welding seam; reducing the diameter of the copper sheath to put it into direct contact with the power cable core and the protective strip; heating the protective strip and the copper sheath at a temperature higher than the melting temperature of the coating of the strip so that the coating fuses in the welding seam.

A method of manufacturing an optical fiber preform includes: producing a core rod having a core rod diameter; inserting the core rod into a glass fluorine-doped intermediate cladding tube so as to form a core assembly, the intermediate cladding tube having an inner diameter and an outer diameter, wherein the inner diameter is larger than the core rod diameter, the radial difference between the inner diameter and the core rod diameter defining an annular gap; and applying a negative pressure inside the annular gap; and forming a core preform by heating the core assembly to collapse the intermediate cladding tube around the core rod while maintaining the negative pressure, wherein heating includes moving a heater outside the intermediate cladding tube and along an axial direction of the same, and forming an overcladding region surrounding the core preform so as to form an optical fiber preform.

It is disclosed an optical cable for communications including at least one micromodule, the micromodule including a retaining element and number N of optical fibers housed in said retaining element. The diameter of a circumference encircling the number N of optical fibers is typically 90% to 95% of an inner diameter of the retaining element. A method of coloring optical fibers during the optical fiber drawing that includes the steps of feeding a natural fiber coating material and a colorant to a mixer; mixing the natural fiber coating material and the colorant in the mixer to obtain a colored coating material; and supplying the colored coating material to a coating die. An apparatus for coloring optical fibers, includes: a first reservoir for containing a natural coating material to be applied onto an optical fiber being drawn; a second reservoir for containing a colorant to be mixed with the natural coating material; a mixer in fluid communication with the first and second reservoirs to receive a first flow of natural coating material and a second flow of colorant and to mix the first and second flows to obtain a colored coating material; a coating die in fluid communication with the mixer to receive the flow of colored coating material and to apply it onto the optical fiber being drawn. A first gas pressure source is associated with the first reservoir, exerting on the natural coating material a first gas pressure variable as a function of at least one optical fiber drawing parameter, and a second gas pressure source is associated with the second reservoir, exerting on the colorant a second gas pressure variable as a function of at least one optical fiber drawing parameter. The first and second lines have relevant pressure drop in a ratio corresponding to the ratio of natural coating material and colorant providing the colored coating material.
