A liquid crystal composition and a liquid crystal display including the liquid crystal composition that includes a first class containing a fluorine-containing liquid crystal compound represented by Formula I (n=1, 2, or 3), and a second class containing at least one neutral liquid crystal compound represented by Formulae III, IV, and V. In Formula I, Wand Ware each independently selected from the group consisting of &#x2014;F, &#x2014;CF, &#x2014;CFH, &#x2014;OCF, and &#x2014;OCFH, the liquid crystal compounds represented by Formulae I, III, IV, and V have R, R, and Rto Rthat are any one of a hydrogen atom, and an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, and an alkenyl group having 1 to 12 carbon atoms as terminal groups, and a first sub-class has a content of 6 wt % or less based on a total content of the first class and the second class, with the proviso that a liquid crystal compound of the first class having n=1 is the first sub-class and a liquid crystal compound of the first class having n=2 or 3 is a second sub-class.

Disclosed is a liquid crystal display that includes a first substrate, a second substrate facing the first substrate, a pair of field generating electrodes formed on at least one of the first substrate and the second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. The liquid crystal layer comprises a liquid crystal composition that includes a first class having at least one fluorine atom, and a second class containing a neutral compound. The second class includes a first sub-class and a second sub-class. The first sub-class contains a liquid crystal compound having at least one selected from an alkyl group and an alkoxy group having C1 to C5 in a terminal group thereof. The second sub-class contains a liquid crystal compound having an alkenyl group having C1 to C5 in terminal groups thereof. The second sub-class is contained in a content of about 7 wt % or less of a total content of the liquid crystal composition.

The liquid crystal display includes a thin film transistor (TFT) panel including a pixel electrode in a rectangular shape having a transverse length longer than a longitudinal length, the pixel electrode including a first domain divider and having upper and lower half portions arranged symmetrically with respect to a transverse long axis passing through a center of the pixel electrode, a common electrode panel including a common electrode facing the pixel electrode, the common electrode including a second domain divider arranged parallel with the first domain divider, and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the TFT panel and the common electrode panel.

Liquid crystal display

Liquid crystal displays and fabrication methods thereof are provided. The liquid crystal display includes first substrate and second substrate facing the first substrate, and liquid crystal layer interposed therebetween. The first substrate includes a peripheral part spacer of which a surface includes a transparent conductive material, the peripheral part spacer being connected to a common voltage connector of the second substrate. A common voltage is applied to the first substrate through the common voltage connector and the peripheral part spacer. The peripheral part spacer is formed in the same process step with a display part spacer. To provide the peripheral part spacer with conductivity, the surface of the peripheral part spacer is covered with a transparent conductive material in the same process step in which the common electrode is formed on the first substrate. Accordingly, the peripheral part spacer configured to apply a common voltage to a common electrode can be formed without additional processing.
