An expansion anchor installable in a pre-drilled hole formed in a base material. The expansion anchor includes a bolt having a shaft with a head portion, an opposing end portion, and a threaded portion. A shoulder is disposed on the shaft intermediate the head portion and the end portion thereof, and an expandable sleeve is disposed about the shaft between the shoulder and the end portion of the shaft. The expandable sleeve has an expandable upper sleeve portion and an expandable lower sleeve portion wherein the expandable lower sleeve portion is expandable outwardly before the expandable upper sleeve portion is expandable outwardly. A nut having a substantially conical surface is fixed rotationally in the pre-drilled hole and is engagable with the threaded portion of the shaft. The substantially conical surface of the nut is engageable with the expandable lower sleeve portion so as to expand the lower sleeve portion until the nut is axially fixes in the pre-drilled hole. The advancing bolt is subsequently drawn into the pre-drilled hole and the shoulder of the shaft is engagable with the expandable upper sleeve portion so as outwardly expand to the upper sleeve portion, whereby the expandable upper and lower sleeve portions are engageable with the wall of the pre-drilled hole so as to retain the expansion anchor therein.

Expansion anchor and method therefor

A fastener system that includes a fastener with a longitudinally extending shank with a head on one end thereof, where the head has a first pattern formed thereon, and a cap that is configured and arranged to be seated upon the head, where the cap includes a second pattern formed on an interior surface thereof. This second pattern is adapted to cooperate with the first pattern, whereby rotational forces applied to the cap are transferred to the fastener via contact between the first and second patterns. Furthermore, the second pattern is defined by a closed figure that includes a plurality of outermost circumferential points located along a circle, with adjacent points being separated by a pattern distance that is greater than the length of an imaginary straight line drawn directly between the adjacent points. Several different configurations are available for the second pattern. Some examples of such configurations include generally star-shaped patterns, generally cross-shaped patterns, and other patterns also formed by a plurality of radially extending branches. Additionally, the second pattern may also be defined by a plurality of closed figures, such as a combination of generally pie-shaped components.

Fastener system including a fastener and a cap

In a roofing washer-dispensing and fastener-driving machine, which has a fastener-feeding tube, a fastener-engaging pawl is mounted operatively to the tube, near its upper end. The pawl is pivotable between a normal position wherein the pawl is arranged to engage a fastener dropped into the tube so as to prevent the fastener from dropping through the tube and a pivoted position wherein the pawl is arranged to disengage from the fastener. An elongate rod is arranged to pivot the pawl from the normal position into the pivoted position when the machine is operated. In the same machine, a magazine adapted to hold a stack of such washers is improved so as to have a bridge mounted pivotably to one of two side walls of the magazine and a cover is mounted adjustably to the bridge, so that the cover in an upwardly adjusted position is inserted into the magazine, above a stack of such washers in the magazine, when the bridge spans the side walls and so that the cover is removed from the magazine when the bridge is pivoted to a position wherein the bridge does not span the side walls. The cover is mounted to the bridge via a rod, along which the cover is movable. In the same machine, a shuttle adapted to be reciprocatingly driven is improved so as to have a transverse groove, in which an elongate brace having a pivot pin at each end is fixed by fasteners so as to bear against the leading and trailing edges of the groove, and a transverse rib adapted to engage the lowermost washer in a stack in the magazine is defined by a removable element.

Roofing washer-dispensing and fastener-driving machine

A unitary fastener collation tube for retaining a plurality of fasteners useable in a stand-up fastener driving tool. The fastener collation tube includes an elongated body member having a channel having a substantially T-shaped cross section for receiving the fasteners arranged side by side therein. At least one end of the elongated body member includes a resilient fastener retaining member engageable with an endmost fastener of the plurality of fasteners so as to retain the plurality of fasteners in the channel of the fastener collation tube, whereby the plurality of fasteners retained in the fastener collation tube are releasable from the fastener collation tube when the resilient fastener retaining member is disengaged from the endmost fastener. The stand-up fastener driving tool includes a magazine with a slot for retaining a plurality of fasteners arranged side by side therein, and a tube holder coupled to the magazine for receiving the fastener collation tube, wherein a corresponding prong extending into the channel of the tube holder is engageable with the resilient fastener retaining member of the elongated body member so as to disengage the resilient fastener retaining member from the endmost fastener disposed therein.

A stress plate for use with a threaded fastener for securing relatively soft insulation to a solid base, such as in a roofing environment, includes a generally planar main body with an underside, an aperture on the main body configured for receiving the fastener, and a sleeve circumscribing the aperture and depending from the underside a sufficient distance to receive the fastener and maintain the fastener perpendicular to the plate, especially when the plate is located intermediate the fastener ends. In the preferred embodiment, the fastener is threaded with a defined pitch of the thread, and the sleeve is dimensioned to span at least one pitch of the fastener.

A stand-up fastener driving tool including a rotary driver having a rotatable shaft with a fastener driving member disposed on a distal end thereof and disposed within telescoping upper and lower tubes, wherein the lower tube has a nose-piece with an opening for retaining a fastener therein. The fastener driving member is extendable toward and away from the nose-piece upon contraction and extension of the lower and upper tubes. A plurality of fasteners are retained side by side in a magazine of the tool, and are individually releasable therefrom upon contraction and extension of the upper and lower tubes. A feed tube connects the magazine to the nose-piece, and includes a magnetized wall portion for capturing and retaining fasteners fed from the magazine. A plunger actuatably coupled to the upper tube and movable relative to the feed tube releases the fastener retained along the magnetized wall portion of the feed tube as the lower and upper tubes are contracted, wherein another fastener is released from the magazine toward the feed tube as the lower and upper tubes are extended.

A shoulder is disposed on the shaft intermediate the head portion and the end portion thereof, and an expandable sleeve is disposed about the shaft between the shoulder and the end portion of the shaft. The expandable sleeve has an expandable upper sleeve portion and an expandable lower sleeve portion wherein the expandable lower sleeve portion is expandable outwardly before the expandable upper sleeve portion is expandable outwardly. A nut having a substantially conical surface is fixed rotationally in the pre-drilled hole and is engagable with the threaded portion of the shaft. The substantially conical surface of the nut is engageable with the expandable lower sleeve portion so as to expand the lower sleeve portion until the nut is axially fixed in the pre-drilled hole. The advancing bolt is subsequently drawn into the pre-drilled hole and the shoulder of the shaft is engagable with the expandable upper sleeve portion so as to outwardly expand the upper sleeve portion, whereby the expandable upper and lower sleeve portions are engageable with the wall of the pre-drilled hole so as to retain the expansion anchor therein.

In a washer-dispensing machine, a chute open at a lower end receives a stack of roofing washers of a type having a central aperture to receive a fastener shank and possibly having downwardly extending barbs. A shuttle engages a single washer from the stack, displaces the single washer to a separated position as the shuttle is moved from a displaced position to a normal position, and releases the single washer in the separated position as the shuttle next moves from the normal position to the displaced position. A known mechanism is employed for moving the shuttle between the displaced position and the normal position. A novel mechanism is mounted operatively to the chute for supporting the stack so as to prevent any of the washers in the stack from dropping through the lower end of the chute and for releasing the stack so as to permit a lowermost washer in the stack to drop through the lower end of the chute. A preferred embodiment includes two stack-supporting fingers and two finger-moving plates, each finger-moving plate coacting with one of the stack-supporting fingers and coacting with a shuttle-moving mechanism so as to support and release the stack appropriately as the machine is operated. An alternative embodiment includes two pivotably mounted, stack-supporting fingers coacting with a shuttle-moving mechanism so as to function similarly.

In a machine for dispensing stackable roofing washers individually and for driving fasteners through such washers, a shuttle is actuatable to displace a lowermost washer of one from a stack, either a small, circular or large, square washer. A gate is biased toward a lowermost position wherein it provides sufficient clearance for the lowermost washer but not any overlying washer to pass beneath it. A pawl mounted pivotally to the gate is biased to a lowermost position wherein the pawl engages a small washer displaced by the shuttle so as to restrain it against backward movement. A stop is adjustable so as to limit movement of a washer of whichever size is being displaced. A measuring bar is mounted via the stop. A screw gun, which provides a primary handle, and a secondary handle are mounted to an upright element so as to be independently adjustable.

Roofing washer-dispenser

A pneumatically actuatable dispenser for a two-part adhesive, as provided within a cartridge having two chambers and having a mixing nozzle mounted upto a first end, each chamber having a plunger accessible from a second end. A front frame holds the cartridge. A piston is arranged to be selectively driven within a cylinder in a forward or reverse direction. A pair of piston rods operate in tandem so as to drive the plungers toward the nozzle, when driven conjointly with the piston in the forward direction. A first valve, when actuated, delivers pressurized air from driving the piston in the forward direction. A second valve, when actuated, delivers pressurized air for driving the piston in the opposite direction. A third valve, when actuated while the first valve is actuated, vents pressurized air from the cylinder. A first control rod, which moves conjointly with the piston, and a second control rod may be selectively linked to each other for conjoint movement or unlinked from each other, by means of a linking lever and a cam. An actuator, which is adjustably positionable along the second control rod, actuates the third valve after conjoint movement of both control rods and the actuator, along with the piston, through means of a distance correlating to a controlled dose of the mixed parts of the adhesive. A fourth valve can be manually actuated so as to divert pressurized air, by means of a hose, to a nozzle for blowing water or debris from a hole which is to receive the adhesive.

Dosage control for adhesive dispenser

A hand-held dispenser for dispensing two fluid components of an adhesive polymer through a nozzle and into openings defined within wall structures so as to provide a high strength hold upon metal anchors subsequently inserted into the openings. The dispenser includes an improved plunger assembly for efficiently expelling the fluids from the respective chambers into the nozzle. The improved plunger assembly includes a compression pad mounted on the end of a piston. The compression pad and piston are enclosed by a dome shaped cap which creates an air chamber in between to exert pressure on the compression pad when dispensing to deform the pad to create a seal between the plunger assembly and the cylinder in which it is housed.
