This invention provides a blood filter unit capable of obtaining a necessary volume of a plasma or serum sample from blood to be assayed easily at any place, which comprises a blood filtering material and a holder accommodating the blood filtering material and having a nozzle for sucking blood and a filtrate outlet, and the inside of the holder being kept reduced pressure conditions.

Blood filter unit

A dry analytical substantially flat film chip for use as an analytical element composed of a support, at least one reagent layer and a spreading layer laminated in this order. The chip is suitable for use as is as an analytical element for liquid samples. The chip further has means for restraining a liquid sample applied to its surface from spreading beyond a predetermined area of the surface. The restraining means may be a fused nonporous area of the spreading layer or may be a portion or area of the spreading layer which has been clogged with a hydrophobic or lipophilic material to render it nonporous. The inventive film chip, in addition, provides means for preventing fraying of the edges of the porous spreading layer as well as the prevention of the generation of fiber dust during cutting of the chip.

Dry analytical element

In a chemical analysis element cartridge, chemical analysis element pressing mechanism is inserted into a cartridge body to press a stack of chemical analysis elements in the cartridge body toward an element take-out port formed in one end of the cartridge body. The element pressing mechanism includes a stopper to be engaged with an engagement teeth formed on an inner wall surface of the cartridge body and a pressing member which presses the stack of the chemical analysis elements toward the element take-out port under the force of a coiled spring. The stopper has a slider member which is slidable relative to a shaft portion of the pressing member and the coiled spring is disposed around the slider member with its one end in abutment against the pressing member and its the other end retained by a spring retainer portion formed on one end of the slider member. A bulged portion on the outer surface of the slider member aligns an effective center of an envelope defined by the end of the coiled spring with the effective center of the spring retainer portion.

Element pressing mechanism for dry chemical analysis element cartridge

A pipette tip is obtained from molding of a plastic material. At least part of the outer surface of the pipette tip has been treated with a water repellent material. The pipette tip is suitable for applying a predetermined amount of a liquid sample during chemical analyses, particularly for applying a measured amount of a liquid having a small surface tension and a high viscosity.

Pipette tip

A water-repellent liquid is held in a liquid-retainable outer surface of a liquid-retainable member. A tube is held so that a portion near its tip comes into contact with the liquid-retainable surfaces while the former is rotated relative to the latter. As the tube is rotated with respect to the liquid-retainable surface, a water-repellent surface is formed on an outer surface of the tube near its tip. Two liquid-retainable members may be provided so that the tube is rotated therebetween.

Method and apparatus for water-repellent processing of tube

A nozzle of a dispenser is filled with a coagulative liquid specimen. Then, the liquid is drawn into the dispenser such that a lower surface of the liquid is spaced from the lower end of the nozzle by a distance which is not smaller than the inner diameter of the nozzle. The liquid is maintained at this position before the next discharging operation is carried out to discharge a predetermined amount of coagulated test liquid onto a chemical assay slide for incubation of the test liquid.

Method of dispensing coagulative test liquid

A quantitative pipette comprising a cylinder, a plunger inserted into the cylinder capable of sucking and discharging a prescribed amount of liquid by the movement of the plunger at a prescribed distance, a ratchet having plural teeth at regular intervals, a driving means for rotating the ratchet, a damping means for damping the rotation of the ratchet not faster than a prescribed speed, a ratchet-engaging means capable of engaging the ratchet to stop it so as to permit the rotation of the ratchet intermittently, a pinion rotating simultaneously with the ratchet, a rack engaging the pinion and fixing said plunger, and a rotary means for rotating from the outside said ratchet or pinion opposed to the driving force of said driving means.

Quantitative pipette

A sample liquid is sucked into a nozzle which is mounted at a front end of an arm. Then the arm is moved down to a position where the sample liquid is discharged from the nozzle so as to form a drop on the lower end of the nozzle. Thereafter the arm is further moved down at a speed not higher than 40 mm/sec to a position where the drop comes into contact with a chemical analysis element.

Liquid depositing device and method

A method of making an electrophoresis sheet composed of two sheet members formed of a non-conductive organic polymer film and disposed to stand facing each other, spacers having predetermined thicknesses disposed at both edge portions between the two sheet members, and an electrophoresis gel membrane of uniform thickness provided with slots extending from an upper edge portion towards a center and grasped between the two sheet members, comprises the step of forming the slots by pushing a cutting blade member against a gel membrane web before the gel membrane web is grasped between the sheet members. The cutting blade member is composed of a combination of a single linear transverse blade having a plurality of cutaway portions and disposed to extend in a transverse direction of the gel membrane web, with a plurality of linear longitudinal blades continuing to the linear transverse blade at both ends of each of the cutaway portions.

Method of making electrophoresis sheet

An apparatus for conducting electrophoresis is fabricated by use of an electrophoresis sheet composed of two sheet members consisting of a non-conductive organic polymer film and disposed to stand facing each other, spacers having predetermined thicknesses disposed between the two sheet members at right and left edge portions, and an electrophoresis gel membrane of a uniform thickness grasped between the two sheet members. The apparatus is provided with a pair of flat plate-like supporting members for supporting the electrophoresis sheet by sandwiching it therebetween, and a spacer disposed between the electrophoresis sheet and at least one of the flat plate-like supporting members, and contacting edge portions of the electrophoresis sheet.
