An optical navigation method includes: providing an optical sensor to operate in a run mode to sense pixel images to perform a displacement calculation; performing a low feature detection upon the sensed pixel images; and, controlling the optical sensor switching from the run mode into a rest mode in which the optical sensor does not perform the displacement calculation when the low feature detection indicates a low feature condition result.

Optical navigation device and method capable of accurately avoiding stationary cursor jitter noise

An optical detecting device capable of detecting a lift height of an optical navigation apparatus is disclosed. The optical detecting device includes a sensor module and a processor. The sensor module includes a sensor array and at least one detector strip. The sensor array is adapted to acquire navigation information of the optical navigation apparatus moved relative to a working surface by sensing an illumination area, and the detector strip has a detection region across an edge of the illumination area. The processor is electrically connected to the sensor module, and adapted to compute the lift height of the optical navigation apparatus relative to the working surface according to a detection result of the detector strip.

A method for determining leading edge location in an image captured by an optical navigation sensor with auto shutter adaptation includes: plotting average pixel values per sensor column on a graph; determining an average value according to the average pixel values as a threshold value; defining a weighted location in the leading half of the captured image according to the threshold value; and determining the leading edge location according to the defined weighted location.

An exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure provides a wake up method and an optical input device using the same. The method includes the following steps. A first image is captured and set as a reference frame when the optical input device enters a sleep mode. A second image is captured and set as a compare frame while the optical input device operates in the sleep mode. The second frame is further being compared with the reference frame to generate a histogram difference. Subsequently, whether a peak histogram value of the histogram difference is less than a predetermined threshold is determined. When the determined that the peak histogram value is less than the predetermine threshold, configures the optical input device to operate in an active mode.

A system and method for tracking movement between a surface and an optical navigation device are described. In an embodiment, the optical navigation device has an image sensor that includes an array of pixels and motion tracking involves acquiring image information, the image information including pixel values that correspond to the pixels, calculating a surface quality (SQUAL) value from the image information, determining a level of saturation of the pixel array from pixel values of the image information, comparing the determined level of saturation of the pixel array to a saturation threshold, increasing a SQUAL threshold if the determined level of saturation of the pixel array is greater than the saturation threshold, and deciding whether or not to output motion tracking information in response to a comparison of the SQUAL value to the SQUAL threshold. Other embodiments of the method are also described.

A system and method for automatically adjusting a drive current to a light source during an optical navigation operation uses brightness characteristics of captured frames of image data to determine whether each of the frames of image data belongs to one of at least first and second types of frames of image data. The drive current is adjusted depending on counts of the frames of image data belonging to the first and second types of frames of image data.
