A method for scanning a surface of a workpiece using a scanning probemounted on a supporton a coordinate measuring machine. The support contains drive meansfor actuating the movement of the scanning proberelatively to the support. The method further involves detecting meansto measure a contact force F applied between the tipof the probe and the surface, control meanscoupled to the drive means, and memory meansfor storing theoretical profilesand coordinatesof the surface. This method is characterized by the fact that the control meansadjust the actuation of the drive meansalong a scanning pathin order to maintain the contact forcewithin the defined range of valuesduring the whole scanning operation along the scanning path

Oscillating scanning probe with constant contact force

The positioning and measuring system includes a coordinate positioning machine comprising a movable spindle () movable relative to a reference surface, a rotor () rotatably connected with the movable spindle, an actuator () for driving the rotor () in rotation around a rotation axis (), and a coordinate probe () detachably connectable to the rotor () for measuring coordinate of points () of a workpiece () along a path resulting from the composition of a translation movement of the spindle () and a rotation of the rotor (). Multi-axis positioning and measuring system and method of using

A method for scanning a surface of a workpieceat a constant scanning speed /v/ using a scanning probemounted on a supporton a coordinate measuring machine (CMM). The CMM contains a first set of drive means () to move the support according to three linear axis (x,y,z), and the supportcontains a second set of drive means () for actuating the movement of the scanning probewith two degrees of freedom relative to said support. The method involves control meanscoupled to the sets of drive means (), and memory means for storing theoretical profiles and coordinates of the surface to scan.
