A stitching device for producing stitching wire staples for stitching stacked sheet materials, includes a stitching head base body and a cutting box fixed to the stitching head base body. The cutting box includes a movable knife slide. A control device controls the movement sequences of the stitching head, in particular of the knife slide, for cutting off the stitching wire automatically. The stitching head base body, the cutting box and the knife slide are configured in such a way that, during interaction, the movable knife slide can be displaced relative to the stitching base body in order to cut off the stitching wire. The cutting box and the knife slide are provided with at least partly aligned openings in such a way that, during interaction between these openings and an operating device, it is possible to cut the wire off manually.

A method for backing printed products includes feeding signatures to a transport and stitching line of a gatherer stitcher by a plurality of feeders. A plurality of signatures are gathered on the transport and stitching line and forms a folded sheet assembly. The folded sheet assembly is stitched to form a brochure along the transport and stitching line. The spine of the brochure is backed along the transport and stitching line by a pressing apparatus.

A gatherer stitcher for collating signatures made of paper, paperboard and the like, for stitching the collated signatures and for delivering the stitched signatures, includes a gathering section, a stitching station and a delivery station. The stitching station has a stitching carriage with at least one stitching head and, during a stitching operation, the stitching carriage is moved by a stitching carriage drive at a speed of the collated signatures. The staple support supports a region of the annular eyelet during a driving-in operation and is moved out of the annular eyelet only when legs of the staple passing through the sheet-like material, have been largely bent over.

The former has a supporting projection and a control projection. The supporting projection extends beyond a contour of the control projection. A gatherer stitcher includes an endless gatherer chain for gathering and transporting folded sheets astride the chain. The gatherer chain has chain roof segments and driving elements being adjustable in position. In an inactive position, a driving element that can be folded forms part of the roof of the gatherer chain and, in another, active position, projects out of the roof of the gatherer chain transversely relative to the conveying direction. The driving element can be driven by a control device. A method for adapting the endless gatherer chain to a format of a product is also provided.

A stitching apparatus for manufacturing printed products, in particular in a gathering and stitching machine, includes a stitching carriage, at least one stitching head for shaping and driving a staple into a stack of signatures, and at least one clinch box for closing the staple driven through the signatures. An actuating device vertically displaces the stitching head for adaptation of the stitching apparatus to a thickness of the stack of signatures. A gathering and stitching machine having a stitching apparatus is also provided.

A gatherer stitcher for brochures has a stitching machine, a delivery station that receives brochures step-by-step during operation, a trimming apparatus, and transport components (brochure ejector, trimmer feed) that transport the brochures from the delivery station to the trimming apparatus during operation. Sensors assigned to the stitching machine and the transport components output signals defining their phase position, and a control system processes the signals. One of the transport components (brochure ejector; trimmer feed) is activated in such a way that the brochures assume a correct position in the trimming apparatus at a predetermined phase angle of the stitching machine, without regard to their width. Changeover times in the event of job changes required when the brochure width changes are shortened.

A driver element is provided for an endless saddle chain in a saddle line, wherein the saddle chain includes saddle segments and receiver segments, with the saddle segments defining a substantially saddle-shaped roof of the saddle chain. The driver element is arranged to be detachably fastened without tools to a respective one of the receiver segments. The driver element includes two driving flaps that are pre-tensioned against each other.

To optimize the effort involved when converting a gatherer stitcher which transports initially continuously transported brochures step by step into a stitching station and subsequently into an output station, sensors are assigned to machine components affected by geometrical parameters that are relevant to the process when there is a change of job order and to a reference component. The sensors emit signals defining the phase positions of the machine components, and a controller processing the signals coordinates the phase positions with at least one of the parameters in such a way that the brochures arrive in the output station in a center-oriented manner.

A stitching apparatus for manufacturing stitching wire staples, in particular annular eyelet staples, for stitching stacked sheet materials, includes a stitching head basic body having a driver for driving the stitching wire staples into the stacked sheet materials in a downward movement of the driver. A former shapes the stitching wire staples, in particular annular eyelet staples. The former is pivoted away during the downward movement of the driver. A wire clamping lever is mounted pivotably in the former. The wire clamping lever has a control element which runs on a control cam in such a way that the former is supported as a result in the upward movement of the driver, with the result that the former is pivoted-in in the upward movement to a different point than the pivoting-out of the former in the downward movement.

A gatherer stitcher having a gatherer chain configuration includes roof segments forming a ridge region and drivers having respective stop surfaces and being mounted so as to be adjustable between an operating position and a position pivotable away therefrom. An auxiliary driver is restricted to the ridge region and carried by a respective roof segment directly adjacent the stop surfaces. The auxiliary driver, in the operating position of the adjustable driver, forms a combined stop surface together with the adjustable driver.

A stitching device includes at least one stitching station having an inlet region and an outlet region, and a transport device for conveying a plurality of folded signatures to the stitching station through the inlet region for stitching the plurality of folded signatures and for conveying the stitched plurality of folded signatures away from the stitching station through the outlet region, and further including a guide element for supporting the plurality of folded signatures during transport thereof through at least one of the inlet and the outlet regions; and a gathering-stitching device including the stitching device.
