A winding apparatus is disclosed which includes a rotatable revolver having at least one spindle mounted thereon, with the spindle being adapted to coaxially mount one or more bobbin tubes. The revolver is rotatably mounted to the frame of the apparatus by a circular bearing surface of substantial diameter, which provides a very stable and durable mounting. The apparatus also includes a traversing mechanism for traversing an advancing yarn and so as to form a cross wound package on the tubes at the winding position. Also, a contact roll is mounted between the traversing mechanism and the winding position so as to be adapted to rest upon the surface of the package being formed. The contact roll is movable a limited distance radially away from the package being wound, and its position is sensed. To accommodate the build of the package, the revolver is positively rotated in response to the sensed position of the contact roll and so that the distance between the axes of the contact roll and the spindle is increased and the pressure between the contact roll and the package may be maintained within a small range of variation.

Yarn winding apparatus and method

A winding apparatus is disclosed which includes a rotatable revolver having a pair of spindles mounted thereon, with the spindles being adapted to coaxially mount one or more bobbin tubes. Upon rotation of the revolver, the spindles are moved between a winding position and a doffing position, and a traversing mechanism is provided for traversing an advancing yarn and so as to form a cross wound package on the tubes at the winding position. Also, a contact roll is mounted between the traversing mechanism and the winding position so as to be adapted to rest upon the surface of the package being formed. The contact roll is movable a limited distance radially away from the package being wound, and its position is sensed. To accommodate the build of the package, the revolver is positively rotated in response to the sensed position of the contact roll and so that the distance between the axes of the contact roll and the operating spindle is increased and the pressure between the contact roll and the package may be maintained within a small range of variation.

Takeup machine

A yarn winding method is disclosed wherein the yarn is wound onto a supporting tubular core by a traversing yarn guide. During the initial portion of the winding process, the yarn is wound in a random wind process, and during the subsequent portion of the winding process the yarn is wound in a stepped precision wind.

Method for winding filament yarns

A yarn winding method and resulting yarn package are disclosed, and wherein the yarn is wound onto a supporting tubular core by a traversing yarn guide and in accordance with either a random wind or a stepped precision wind. In each case, the winding is begun with the traversing speed having a predetermined initial mean value, and the mean value is then increased from the initial mean value to a predetermined maximum mean value, and such that the maximum value is reached when a predetermined base layer having a thickness (SB) of no more than about 10% of the total yarn layer thickness (S) of the finished yarn package is produced. The predetermined maximum value may be maintained during the remainder of the winding operation, and in addition, the circumferential speed of the package may be reduced during the initial increasing of the mean value of the traversing speed, and such that the winding speed and tension of the yarn remain substantially constant.

Yarn winding method and resulting package

A method for melt spinning thermoplastic filament yarn is disclosed, wherein a plurality of filaments are withdrawn from a spinneret, and combined to form an advancing yarn. The advancing yarn is traversed onto a rotating bobbin to form a wound package, and the traversing speed is periodically rapidly changed so as to avoid the formation of undesirable patterns or ribbons. In addition, the advancing yarn is heated so as to lower its modulus of elasticity, so that the yarn tension and yarn denier remain within an acceptable range of variation during each change of the traversing speed.

Method for melt spinning thermoplastic filament yarn

A method and apparatus for producing ribbon free wound yarn packages is disclosed. In accordance with the method, a textile yarn is wound into a core supported package while the yarn is guided onto the core by a traversing yarn guide. The speed of the traversing yarn guide is proportional to the rotational speed of the package to define a substantially constant winding ratio during each of a series of sequential steps of the winding operation. The speed of the traversing yarn guide rapidly increases at the beginning of each of the sequential steps to produce a stepped precision wind. During at least some of the steps of the precision wind process, the winding ratio is varied from a predetermined ideal winding ratio by a series of recurring deviations, thereby avoiding the formation of undesirable patterns on the surface of the package.

Stepped precision winding process

A method and apparatus for producing a ribbon free randomly wound yarn package is disclosed, and wherein a plurality of critical winding ratios at which undesirable pattern formations or ribbons would normally occur are determined and stored in a microprocessor control unit. During the winding operation, the spindle speed and traversing frequency are monitored by sensors and are transmitted to the control unit, and the control unit computes the optimum time for rapidly changing the traversing frequency so that the actual winding ratio moves rapidly through each of the approaching critical winding ratios. The original traversing frequency is re-established after having passed beyond each of the critical winding ratios. The present invention further includes continuously oscillating at least the initial value of the traverse speed between a maximum and a minimum value, which renders it unnecessary to change the traverse speed in the case of certain less critical ribbons. Where the ribbon breaking traverse speed is also oscillated, ribbon symptoms which occur in the intermediate ribbon area of the ribbon breaking value of the traverse speed can be avoided or alleviated.
