In an internal combustion engine with a turbocharger with a turbine wheel arranged in its exhaust gas duct system and an exhaust gas release arrangement disposed in the exhaust gas duct system ahead of the turbine wheel of the turbocharger, the exhaust gas release arrangement comprises a valve with a valve seat formed in such a way that different controllable operating state-based flow cross-sections are provided for the controlled release of exhaust gases from the exhaust gas duct system ahead of the turbine wheel during motor brake and during power operation of the internal combustion engine.

In an operating mechanism for an engine brake valve of an internal combustion engine which has fuel injectors mounted in the cylinder head to which pressurized fuel is delivered through high pressure fuel passages from a high pressure fuel injection pump, a hydraulic operating piston disposed in a hydraulic cylinder is operatively connected to the engine brake valve by way of a lever which is actuated by the hydraulic operating piston when fuel under pressure is supplied to the hydraulic cylinder and a hydraulic control valve is arranged in the high pressure fuel passages for selectively directing the high pressure fuel from the injection pump either to the injector for injection into the engine or to the hydraulic cylinder for opening the engine brake valve at the end of an engine compression stroke to discharge the compressed gas from the engine during engine braking operation.

In a motorbrake arrangement for a Diesel engine which utilizes a high pressure fuel reservoir from which fuel is supplied to the injector of each of the various engine cylinders, and each of the cylinders includes a decompression valve which is hydraulically operated for decompression of gas compressed in the engine cylinder during the engine compression stroke, the decompression valve is operable by high pressure fuel admitted to the decompression valve through a control line from the high pressure fuel reservoir under the control of an electromagnetic valve arranged in the control line.
