A tool is provided having two deep rolling work rollers ( ) made of a hard material which, for the deep rolling of grooves in crankshaft journals or crank pins, are arranged at a first mutual distance that corresponds to the specific width of the journals. Each of the work rollers ( ) is supported to float in a pocket-shaped recess ( ) provided in a cage ( ), in accordance with the first distance. The cage ( ) consists of a material which, compared to the material of the work rollers ( ), has a lower degree of hardness but superior sliding characteristics. The cage ( ) is located at the extreme end of the long leg ( ) of an L-shaped tool holder ( ), and has a second distance ( ) to a second cage for support of the same work rollers ( ). A minimum of one of the recesses ( ) of the second cage is configured in a way to provide the work roller ( ), at least in the direction of the first distance, with increased mobility, and in addition, a support surface is provided which engages the outer circumference of the work roller ( ).

Tool for deep rolling grooves of crankshaft journals or crank pins

A roller cage ( ) is provided for the guidance of a minimum of one work roller ( ) of a tool for deep rolling of radii or grooves on crankshaft journals or crank pins, where the roller cage ( ) is supported at the end ( ) of the long leg ( ) of an L-shaped tool holder, and is loosely guided in the longitudinal direction of the long leg ( ) in a tab engaging in a longitudinal groove on the underside ( ) of the roller cage ( ) from the end ( ) of the long leg ( ). The longitudinal groove of the roller cage ( ) has a considerably greater width than the width of the tab.

Laterally floating roller cage

A roller cage ( ) is provided with a prismatic base body for guiding a minimum of one work roller designed for deep rolling of grooves on crankshaft journals or crank pins, in a first ( ) concave recess on one of the two faces ( ) of the prismatic body on a section of the circumference of the work roller, wherein the rotational axis of the work roller is inclined at an angle ( ), in which the section guided inside the roller cage ( ) has a shorter distance to the longitudinal center (C&mdash;C) of the prismatic body than the remaining section with a first, groove shaped recess ( ) along the longitudinal center (C&mdash;C) of the base area ( ) of the prismatic body, as a passage for one support roller for the work roller, and a second groove shaped recess ( ) along the longitudinal center (C&mdash;C) on the side ( ) of the prismatic body located opposite the first groove shaped recess ( ), for support of the roller cage ( ) on the end of the long leg of an L-shaped tool holder, by providing on the second face of the prismatic body ( ) located opposite the first concave recess ( ), a minimum of one second concave recess identical by position and size to the first concave recess ( ).
