An automated spatial frame is disclosed. The spatial frame may include a master controller unit arranged and configured as a centralized controller for exchanging data with a remote computing system, exchanging data with a plurality of automated struts, and delivering power to the automated struts. Thus arranged, the master-controller unit may be configured as a fully integrated, rechargeable power supply/controller unit for powering and controlling the automated struts. In one embodiment, the master-controller unit is coupled to an external surface of a platform. The platform acting as a conduit for coupling the master-controller unit to the automated struts. As such, at least one of the platforms provides integrated connectivity to the automated struts. In one embodiment, the struts may be wireless automated strut including a motor, a power source, and a wireless communications module for communicating with an external computing system.

Automated spatial frame and automated struts used therewith

Disclosed herein is a self-countersinking bone screw and a system and a method for countersinking a bone screw or fastener used in connection with an orthopedic implant such as, for example, an intramedullary nail. The bone screw includes one or more cutting features configured to self-countersink the head of the screw. The system and method utilize instrumentation including a plurality of markings or indicia configured to indicate a position of the head of the screw relative to an outer surface of the patient's bone. In use, the method enables a surgeon to quickly and easily countersink one or more bone screws used to couple an IM nail to a patient's bone without requiring additional instrumentation to form a countersunk hole in the patient's bone.

Self-countersinking bone fastener and method for countersinking a bone fastener used in connection with an orthopedic implant

Methods, systems, and devices for treating osteochondral defects (OCDs) are disclosed. The disclosed methods and systems include collecting joint surface data using image-free methods, generating a three-dimensional (3D) healthy bone model based on the joint surface data and a database of healthy bone anatomies, defining the OCD boundary on the joint, generating a 3D implant model based on the 3D healthy bone model and the OCD boundary, manufacturing an implant based on the 3D implant model, generating an implantation plan, the resected cavity on the joint. The implant includes a 3D-printed titanium alloy substrate having a first and second porous layer separated by a nonporous layer. A polymer material is over-molded onto the second porous layer and treated to exhibit properties that mimic cartilage, while the first porous layer allows the implant to fuse to patient bone.

Methods and systems for implanting a joint implant

Kinematic couplings for affixing an end effector to a robotic arm covered in a surgical drape are provided. A kinematic coupling can include one or more attachment mechanisms for affixing the kinematic coupling to the robotic arm with or without piercing the surgical drape positioned thereover. The kinematic coupling can be configured to interchangeably engage with a number of different end effectors, including surgical instruments, cutting guides or jigs, tool holders, and so on.

Methods and systems of augmenting an implant intraoperatively and preparing a cone for revision surgical procedure are disclosed. A system includes a cutting device, a tracking and navigation system and a cutting system in operable communication with the cutting device and the tracking and navigation system. The cutting device includes a communication system, a cutting element, and a plurality of optical trackers. The tracking and navigation system is configured to detect a location of optical trackers. The control system is configured to cause the tracking and navigation system to detect the location of the cutting device, determine a revised shape for an implant cavity, cause the cutting device to cut the implant cavity to the revised shape, select a shape for a cone to be placed in the revised implant cavity, and machine the cone to the selected shape.

Intraoperative implant augmentation

An automated and/or motorized spatial frame including a control unit and a plurality of motorized struts is disclosed. The control unit being configured as a controller for exchanging data with an external computing system, exchanging data with the plurality of motorized struts, and delivering power to the motorized struts. Thus arranged, the control unit may be configured as a fully integrated power supply and controller for powering and controlling the motorized struts. In some embodiments, the control unit includes a plurality of PCB modules, each positioned within the spaces or pockets formed between adjacent tabs on a ring of the frame. The PCB modules being detachably coupled to the ring. In some embodiments, the PCB modules may be detachably coupled to the ring via interconnecting male and female connectors. Alternatively, the PCB modules may be detachably coupled to the ring via a plurality of brackets.

Connection mechanisms for coupling printed circuit board modules to a ring in an automated and/or motorized spatial frame

Methods and devices for bone adjustment, such as limb lengthening, are disclosed. For example, in one embodiment, a bone adjustment device may include a proximal portion configured to attach to a first bone portion, a distal portion configured to attach to a second bone portion, a motorized drive assembly, a control circuitry operably coupled to the motorized drive assembly, the motorized drive assembly and the control circuitry being hermetically sealed within a motor compartment, a driving element having a first end operatively coupled to the motorized drive assembly and a second end operatively coupled to the distal portion, the control circuitry is operative to receive wireless control signals from an external computing device, the motorized drive assembly is configured to be actuated based on the control signals to force rotation of the driving element to cause movement of the distal portion away from the proximal portion. Other embodiments are described.

Implantable motorized bone adjustment devices

Methods, non-transitory computer readable media, and surgical computing devices are illustrated that improve surgical planning using machine learning. With this technology, a machine learning model is trained based on historical case log data sets associated with patients that have undergone a surgical procedure. The machine learning model is applied to current patient data for a current patient to generate a predictor equation. The current patient data comprises anatomy data for an anatomy of the current patient. The predictor equation is optimized to generate a size, position, and orientation of an implant, and resections required to achieve the position and orientation of the implant with respect to the anatomy of the current patient, as part of a surgical plan for the current patient. The machine learning model is updated based on the current patient data and current outcome.

Methods for improved surgical planning using machine learning and devices thereof

Methods and systems for treating osteochondral defects (OCDs) are disclosed. The methods include collecting surface data of a joint using image-free methods, generating a three-dimensional (3D) healthy bone model based on the surface data and a database of healthy bone anatomies, defining a boundary of the OCD on the joint, and generating a 3D implant model based on the 3D healthy bone model and the boundary. The method may also include manufacturing an implant based on the 3D implant model, generating an implantation plan, resecting the joint according to the implantation plan, and placing the implant into the resected cavity. The 3D implant model may include a first and second porous layer separated by a nonporous layer. A polymer material is overmolded onto the second porous layer and treated to exhibit properties that mimic cartilage, while the first porous layer allows the implant to fuse to patient bone.

Methods and system for manufacturing a joint implant

Systems and methods for power conservation of embedded sensors are provided. In some embodiments, at least one sensor positioned within an orthopedic implant operably senses a triggering event of a patient. A sensor signal representative of the triggering event may be sent from a controller to a processor, wherein the controller is operatively connected to the at least one sensor. A command signal may then be sent from the processor to control operation of the at least one sensor.

Orthopedic implants with improved sensors

Methods, non-transitory computer readable media, and surgical computing devices are disclosed herein for creating a three-dimensional (3D) model based on a plurality of received two-dimensional (2D) medical images containing patient anatomy and a tracking fiducial. Once the 2D images are received, a determination is made regarding any potential processing steps required to put the images into a standard view. Once the images are processed, a user may modify or adjust various factors. Using the size and orientation of the tracking fiducial a 3D virtual model is created based on a repository of known patient data, such as a bone atlas. The 3D virtual model can then be output to a display device and optionally used to facilitate a surgical procedure. The 3D virtual model of patient anatomy can advantageously be generated more quickly and using fewer resources with this technology.

Intraoperative three-dimensional bone model generation

Systems and methods for determining a care plan for a patient are disclosed. Data from a one or more databases are received or retrieved and used to determine a preferred care plan used to perform a surgical procedure or otherwise treat a patient. The data may include data pertaining to a patient, a healthcare professional, a healthcare facility, an implant, economic data, simulation data, imaging data, and/or the like. The data may be used to determine a plan that provides a positive outcome and patient satisfaction. The data may be updated over time or in real time to improve or refine the determination of care plans for the current patient or other patients.

Methods and systems for providing an episode of care

An external magnetic actuator for use in adjusting an implantable medical device having a magnetically actuatable rotatable portion, such as an intramedullary (EVI) lengthening nail is disclosed. The actuator may include a magnet having opposite major surfaces representing opposite poles of the magnet. The magnet may be contained within an actuator body having first and second handles coupled to first and second opposing side walls of the housing. The actuator body may also include one or more projections operable to prevent first and/or second walls of the actuator body from lying flat against an external planar surface. A reconfigurable bone adjustment device () includes a first member () configured for attachment to a first bone fragment, a second member () configured for attachment to a second bone fragment and a reconfiguration assembly () configured to move the second member relative to the first member. The reconfiguration assembly includes a drive mechanism () and a threaded rod () operatively coupled to the drive mechanism so that rotation of the drive mechanism rotates the threaded rod. The reconfiguration assembly operates to reduces stresses, forces, bending moments and/or eccentric moments on a junction and/or by configuring the junction in a manner whereby one of more of the forces, is isolated away from the junction.
