One or more embodiments are directed to conductor tracing instruments that include a receiver for detecting an energized conductor and methods for detecting an energized conductor. The receiver includes a plurality of sensors configured to sense magnetic fields produced by the energized conductor and a feedback mechanism configured to communicate information to a user regarding the magnetic fields being sensed. At least two of the sensors are configured to sense magnetic fields having directions of magnetic force that are different from each other. In one embodiment, the sensors are positioned so as to sense magnetic fields having directions of magnetic force that are perpendicular to each other. A change in information provided by the feedback mechanism communicates a change in direction of the energized conductor being detected by the receiver.

An accelerometer system has a node with a first single-axis accelerometer coupled to a single associated TEDS Transducer Electronic Data Sheet memory component in accordance with IEEE 1451 Standards. Information about second and third single-axis accelerometers external to the mode resides in the single TEDS memory component. The first, second, and third accelerometers are of the same type and manufacturer, and the single TEDS memory component is configured with a memory table having listings of identifying data common to all of the first, second, and third accelerometers and first, second, and third calibration data unique to the first, second, and third accelerometers, respectively.

A system and method for analyzing a device that includes a mass configured for motion. The system includes a tri-axial accelerometer disposed to detect acceleration vectors of the device and to output three channels of acceleration data, and a user interface receiving the three channels of acceleration data. The user interface is configured to correlate the three channels of acceleration data with a reference frame defined by three orthogonal axes intersecting at a vertex, and includes a display and a selector. The display shows sets of options that represent dispositions of the device with respect to gravity, placements of the tri-axial accelerometer with respect to the device, and orientations of the tri-axial accelerometer with respect to the device. The selector selects one device disposition option, one tri-axial accelerometer placement option, and one tri-axial accelerometer orientation option.
