An electrical connector includes a dielectric housing, first and second contacts for electrically engaging with a mated electrical connector, third and fourth contacts for electrically engaging with an electrical device. A printed circuit board is received in the housing. The first and third contacts and the second and fourth contacts are electrically connected together via circuits of the printed circuit board, respectively. These contacts are soldered to the printed circuit board, wherein the first and third contacts are on a first face of the printed circuit board and the second and fourth contacts are on an opposite face thereof. The first and second contacts each further have a barb having an interference fit with the housing. The printed circuit board has a copper stripline disposed between the first and second faces, whereby crosstalk of signals transmitted between the first and third contacts and between the second and fourth contacts can be prevented.

Electrical connector assembly and method for making the same

A contact used in a socket for electrically connecting with a pin of a CPU, comprises a fixing portion for being fixed in the socket, a mating portion and a connecting portion connected between the fixing portion and the mating portion. The mating portion has a receiving body which forms a receiving space adapted for entrance of the pin of the CPU to be in a first position, and has two engaging body extending from the receiving CPU for sidewardly gripping the pin of the CPU therebetween when the pin of the CPU is moved from the first position to a second position. The connecting portion is capable of deforming to effectuate a limited turning movement of the mating portion relative to the fixing portion about the connecting portion in response to a sideward displacement of the pin of the CPU from the second position.

Contact for a socket

A socket connector (10) for receiving a pin type component (11) therein, comprises an insulative housing (12) having a plurality of cavities (14) extending therethrough in a vertical direction. Each cavity (14) comprises an upper portion (32) and a lower portion (34) wherein the upper portion (32) includes a counter sink and the lower portion (34) includes a generally rectangular hole generally formed by the first, second, third and fourth interior surfaces (38, 46, 48, 50). A pair of engagement blocks (36) are formed on the upper corners, and a shallow (40) is recessed inward from the first interior surface (38) and a pair of slots (44) are recessed inward from the opposite second and third interior surface (46, 48). A plurality of contacts (18) are respectively received within such plural cavities (14) wherein each contact (18) is of a plate-like shape, includes a main body (20) having retention barbs (22) on two sides and a generally triangular resilient section (26) with an expansion section (28) at the top for engagement with the inserted pin (13) of the component (11) and for engagement with the engagement blocks (34) for preloading consideration before the pin (13) of the component (11) is mated.

Low profile LIF PGA socket

An electrical socket (10) includes an insulative housing (12) with cavities (14) extending vertically therethrough and a plurality of contacts (30) retained in the cavities (14), respectively. An engagement bar (22) is positioned proximate the upper open end of each cavity (14) so that when the contact is assembled in each corresponding cavity (14), the front portions of the spring arms (40) of each contact (30) can move along a guiding pin (62), which is inserted into the cavity (14) from the top open end temporally only for the sake of assembling of the contacts (30) within the socket (10), and be deflected outwardly so that the tips (44') of the spring arms (40) of the contact (30) can pass the engagement bar (22) and be positioned by the sides of the engagement bar (22). Therefore, the tips (44') of the spring arms (40) of the contact (30) can abut against the opposite sides of the engagement bar (22) when the guiding pin (62) is removed from the socket (10), and a larger space is formed between the contact sections (42) of the spring arms (40) of the contact (30) for easy and low insertion force of the pins downward extending from the PGA component.

LIF PGA socket and contact therein and method making the same

A circuit board latching device (40, 41) for use with an insulative connector housing (31) includes a retaining wall (82) and a circuit board support post (52) in which the board support post (52) is positioned opposite the retaining wall (82). The latching device (40, 41) of the present invention comprises a main body portion (56) and a mounting mechanism for mounting the main body portion to the housing (31) between the retaining wall (82) and the board support post (52). Furthermore, a latch lug (71) extends from the main body portion (56) which includes a cam surface (72) which is inclined relative to the latch lug (71), and a lock surface (73) which is substantially perpendicular to the main body portion (56). Moreover, the latching device (40, 41) includes a resilient stress reducing arm (79) projecting angularly away from the main body portion (56) toward the retaining wall (82). In one aspect, the mounting mechanism comprises a mounting platform (94) which includes a plate (106) extending from the main body portion (56). A first finger (95) extends substantially downward from one end of the plate (106) while a second finger (96) extends substantially downward from the opposite end of the plate (106) which mountingly engage the housing (31). In another aspect of the present invention, the mounting mechanism comprises an upstanding sleeve (59) mounting member extending from the main body portion (56).

Electrical connector with improved latch mechanism

A female contact (5) comprises a forward contact section (50), a middle retention section (53) and a rearward tail (54). The contact section (50) includes a front generally C-shaped ring (51) at the front end, a rear generally C-shaped ring (52) at the rear end, and three inwardly curved beams (50A, 50B, 50C) bowed to each other intermediate two rings (51, 52). The base beam (50A) is integrally aligned with the retention section (53), and the two auxiliary beam (50B, 50C) are symmetrically positioned in relation to an imaginary plane vertically extending from the base beam (50A). Each beam (50A, 50B, 50C) has expanded portions approximate the front ring (51), the rear ring (52) and the engaging region (500A, 500B, 500C).

Contact having generally uniform stress acting thereon

A card-edge connector assembly (30) for releasably securing a circuit board (13) having an elongated insulative housing (32) formed of a moldable material and defining an elongated channel (40) in a surface (38) of the housing (32). Integrally formed latches (36, 36'), disposed on opposite ends of the elongated channel, include latch lever portions (44, 44') extending upwardly and rearwardly therefrom to facilitate access to the latches (36, 36'). Backstops (42, 42') are integrally formed with the housing and extend outwardly from the housing surface to positions vertically below the latch levers, respectively. A slot (64, 64') is formed between the backstop and the latch members. Each latch lever defines a central mold opening (46, 46') extending therethrough and positioned in vertical alignment with the corresponding backstops. Each mold opening is sufficiently large to permit withdrawal of a slot defining-mold component (74) along a linear path away from the slots therethrough during integral molding of the connector assembly. The mold opening is further sufficiently small to provide substantial area on the latch lever portion to enable manual release of the latch members.

Card-edge connector apparatus and method of molding the same

A female contact (40) is formed by a plate and has a contact section (46) in the front, a retention section (44) in the midst and a biased tail (45) in the rear. The contact section (46) includes a front ring (41) and a rear ring (42) positioned at two opposite ends thereof, and three beams (431, 432, 433) spaced apart from and parallel to each other, and integrally connected between the front ring (41) and the rear ring (42), respectively. These three beams (431, 432, 433), including a base beam (432) and a pair of auxiliary beams (431, 433) positioned above the base beam (432) within an appropriate angle range relative to the vertical line (L1) of the base beam (432), are inward bowed to each other proximate the middle portion wherein each beam (431, 432, 433) has itself an identical width along its length while the width of the base beam (432) is relatively larger than that of the auxiliary beams (431, 433).

Contact for IC memory card

An electrical connector (10) for use with a module includes an insulative elongated housing (12) and a module-receiving recess (14) which extends longitudinally within and between opposite ends (16) of the housing (12). A plurality of cavities (40) are transversely positioned along the recess (14) and open out on both sides thereof. A contact (60) is received within each cavity (40) and includes a base portion (62) in a horizontal direction. A generally S-shaped spring beams (64) extends upward from one end of the base portion (62), and a generally L-shaped spring beam (72) extends upward from the other side of the base portion (62). A retention section (76) extends upward between two spring beams (64, 72) and includes a pair of posts (78) separated along a slot (80). A notch (82) is positioned at the top of the retention section (76) in alignment with the slot (80). A rib (50) extends through the recess (14) and has a plurality of apertures (55) each in alignment with the corresponding cavity (40) to receive the retention section (76) of the contact (60). An embossment (56) is positioned within each aperture (55) to deflect the retention section (76) of the contact (60) when the connector (10) is assembled together.

A contact for circuit board socket includes a planar conductor having an elongated base with oppositely spaced ends. A fulcrum leg is formed on one end of the base and has a cut-out space extending from outermost edge to the inside middle portion of the base so as to make the fulcrum leg more flexible. A contact leg is formed on the other end of the base and has a cut-out space extending lengthwise thereof between first and second parallel and spaced apart planar beam sections. The end of the base sections remote from the base are joined and the cut-out space extends to the middle portion of the base but does not communicate with that of the fulcrum leg. The conductor furthermore provides a stop means at the side of the contact leg, which cooperates with a similar stop means at the outer portion of the fulcrum leg to form a pair of stop means. The pair of stop means function to protect the contact from excess deformation, and to provide a holding portion to cooperate with a specific tool when the contact is inserted into a socket by the tool.
