An enclosure for an electrical terminal block includes a housing having a back wall and projecting side walls which form a bounded chamber. The chamber accommodates an electrical terminal block. A cover is hingedly attached to the housing and may be locked thereto to protect the terminal block housed therein. The cover and the housing are attached in such a manner so that if the cover is not properly locked to the housing, the cover will pop open providing a visual indication to the installer that the cover has not been locked properly to the housing.

A method for terminating an electrical conductor, comprises an outset step of defining a housing having an open end and a closed end and at least one passage therethrough for entry of the conductor into the housing to permit a termination end of the conductor to be resident interiorly in the housing. Next, the housing passage is closed and the housing is disposed with the housing open end vertically above the housing closed end. With the housing so disposed, sealant gel is introduced in liquid state interiorly of the housing. While the sealant gel is in the liquid state, there is secured with the housing, through the housing open end, apparatus for subsequent use in terminating the conductor, Upon transition of the sealant gel to a cured state, the housing passage is opened. To complete the conductor terminating method, at the installation site, the conductor is inserted into the housing passage and into registry with the terminating apparatus. One now operates the terminating apparatus to terminate the conductor. An insulation-displacement contact defines first and second beams bounding a conductor-receiving slot, the beams defining respective first and second notched insulation-displacement segments at respective leading and trailing parts thereof which are of triangular configuration having triangle bases aligned with the conductor entry passage.

Electrical termination and method for making same

A hold-down bracket secures an electrical terminal block to an enclosure surface. The terminal block includes a base having a plurality of circular terminal modules extending upwardly therefrom. The connector modules are arranged in plural staggered rows. Adjacent modules define a longitudinal passage therebetween. The bracket includes an elongate body having a securement element at one end for mechanical securement to the enclosure surface and an elongate terminal block holding member at the other end for positioning within the passage defined between adjacent terminal modules. The terminal block holding member has outwardly diverging opposed curved sidewalls preventing lateral withdrawal of the holding member through the passage. The mounting bracket may be supported at various locations along the terminal block to facilitate mounting to the enclosure surface.

Hold-down bracket for an electrical terminal block

A test probe device is attachable to alligator clips of test equipment for establishing electrical engagement between an electrical contact supported within an insulative housing, which is accessible through an opening therein and the test equipment. The alligator clip includes a pair of actuatable jaws defining a connection region therebetween. The test probe device includes an elongate probe member insertable into the housing through the opening for electrical engagement with the contact. An attachment member is electrically coupled to the probe member. The attachment member is attachable to the alligator clip at a location remote from the connection region thereof, permitting the alligator clip to be used without removing the test probe device.

A connector block for connecting drop wires to conductors of a multi-conductor cable is disclosed. The connector block includes a housing having plural apertures therethrough and individual terminal modules which are insertable into the housing. The terminal modules may be inserted into the housing in plural different orientations to permit insertion of the drop wire from different directions. Each individual terminal module establishes electrical connection between a drop wire pair and a pair of conductors of the multi-conductor cable.

Electrical connector block

An electrical connector provides for repeatable sealed termination of electrical conductors. The connector includes an insulative connector housing supporting therein an insulation displacing contact. The contact permits insertable and removable insulation displacing engagement with an insulated conductor. A sealing material is disposed within the housing around the contact for sealing the engagement of the contact with the conductor. The sealing material is displaceable upon insertable engagement of the conductor with the contact. The connector further includes a plunger supported adjacent the contact. The plunger is compressible in response to the insertable engagement of the conductor with the contact and returnable to an uncompressed condition upon removal of the conductor for returning the displaced sealing material to its original position.

A hand tool of the pliers-type configuration used for crimping electrical terminals is disclosed. The tool includes a pair of jaws movably with respect to one another by the actuation of a pair of handles. The jaws define a crimping nest which supports an electrical terminal. One die of the crimping nest includes a raised surface, and depending tapering side walls. The raised surface of the die has an hour-glass configuration. The particular shape of the die limits the pressure applied to the terminal during crimping, so as to reduce the tendency to overcrimp the terminal.

A modular telephone connector splitter/adapter is disclosed. A housing supports a plurality of modular connectors in input and output configurations to permit formation of a modular telephone splitter in which an input can be divided into multiple outputs. The input can also be a conventional telecommunications cable wherein the housing serves as a cable splitter.

Apparatus for field assembling a telephone connection apparatus

An electrical connector for use as a telephone plug or jack is assembled without need of special tooling and comprises a housing for receiving an insert member. The insert member supports a plurality of contacts thereon, each contact having a first end for external connection to the contacts of another jack or plug and a second end portion of insulation-displacing type. A conductor support element secures telephone cable conductors therein and is engaged with the housing to place the conductors in insulation-displaced engagement with the contact second end portions. A twenty-five pair telephone connector utilizing a modified version of the jack includes, in its preferred form, a base having first and second pluralities of compartments separated by a fold section. The fold section defines a channel for receipt of conductors of a multiconductor telephone cable. The folded base places the jack housings in abutting relation for retention therein, securement means holding such base in its closed, folded condition. Excessive electrical interfacing with attendant disadvantage in electrical resistance is thereby reduced.
