A mattress or bedding product is covered with a topper comprising individual tubes, each of which is filled with shredded foam/fiber material. In one embodiment, the topper has a foam layer having a number of arcuate-shaped cradles in which are placed the individual tubes. The shredded foam/fiber materials may be modified as required to provide different density and/or firmness characteristics to different portions of the product.

A resilient structure such as a seat cushion, mattress, furniture back or the like has enhanced resiliency and support at strategic locations due to the use of coil springs interlocked and held within a densified heat bonded low melt fiber batt used as the core or cover of the resilient structure. The densified fiber batt core includes low melt fibers which, when heated to the melting point and then cooled, intersect and interlock with the coil springs. The coil springs function as an integral part of the fiber batt, eliminating the need for lattice wires and the like to interlock the springs in the structure. The invention also increases the capability of manufacturing resilient structures in a wide variety of shapes and sizes.

An articulated mattress comprising an articulated spring core, a mattress pad and an upholstered fabric covering encasing the articulated spring core and the mattress pad. The articulated spring core comprises at least two sections of spring core hingedly connected to each other with a foam hinge. The foam hinge may extend longitudinally or transversely. A plurality of fasteners secure the foam hinge to the end turns of the coil springs proximate the foam hinge.

A box spring assembly includes a base frame, a top wire grid and a plurality of sinous wire springs interconnecting the top wire grid and the base frame. The sinuous wire springs each comprises a sinuous wire strip formed into an inverted U-shaped configuration with the closed end of each U-shaped spring attached to the top wire grid by a snap-fit connection and the free ends at the bottom of the U-shaped spring being attached to the base frame.

A box spring assembly includes a base frame, a top wire grid and a plurality of sinuous wire springs interconnecting the top wire grid and the base frame. The sinuous wire springs each comprise a sinuous wire strip formed into an inverted U-shaped configuration with the closed end of each U-shaped spring attached to the top wire grid and the free ends at the top of the U-shaped spring attached to the base frame.

A core spring assembly combines the use of rows and/or columns of round coil springs with rows and/or columns of rectangular torsion bar coil springs, all interconnected in a top plane by a welded wire grid so as to create a spring core assembly for a bedding mattress or box spring. In one preferred form, the rectangular torsion bar coil springs are located about the periphery of the spring assembly while in another embodiment the rectangular torsion bar coil springs are all located in the center one-third of the spring assembly so as to increase the firmness of that center section of the unit.

An improved sofa-sleeper structure having a foldable bed frame, the bed frame including a cloth front deck and a cloth rear deck. The cloth decks are fixed one to the other, e.g., by stitching, at their adjoining edges, and are attached by tension springs to the bed frame. A tensioning device extends between side members of the bed frame in the area where the front and rear decks are fixed together, the tensioning device maintaining the front deck relatively taut when the bed frame is folded into the sofa attitude, thereby aiding in establishing a spring surface for the sofa's cushions. A mattress is connected to the cloth front and rear decks in fixed fashion around its periphery, e.g., by stitching, thereby stabilizing the mattress in position on the bed frame.
