A method of user equipment (UE) positioning includes receiving positioning assistance data associated with a Transmission Reception Point (TRP), such as an expected Reference Signal Time difference (RSTD) between a reference cell and the TRP. The method also includes capturing, based on at least the expected RSTD, a first portion of reference signals from the TRP, where, at the UE, the first portion of the reference signals does not overlap in time with non-reference signals from the reference cell. The method further includes determining a first Time of Arrival (TOA) of the reference signals from the TRP based on the first portion of the reference signals.

Method to improve downlink PRS positioning performance in presence of slot misalignment

Techniques are provided for combining positioning reference signal (PRS) measurements coherently or non-coherently. An example method for combining positioning reference signal resources includes receiving a plurality of positioning reference signals associated with a positioning reference signal resource set or a transmission/reception point, coherently combining resource elements for two or more of the plurality of positioning reference signals received within a period of time, and non-coherently combining resource elements for two or more of the plurality of positioning reference signals received outside of the period of time.

Opportunistic coherent and non-coherent combining of positioning reference signal resources

A mobile device supports positioning with positioning reference signals (PRS) on multiple beam by dividing the PRS processing into two separate modes, an acquisition mode and a tracking mode. In acquisition mode, the mobile device performs a fast scan of all of the beams from a base station transmitting PRS using less than the full set of resources for the PRS, i.e., less than the full bandwidth and/or less than the full number of repetitions of the PRS. The mobile device may select the best beams to use for positioning, e.g., based on signal strength metric. In tracking mode, the mobile device tracks the PRS from only the selected beams using the full set of resources for the PRS. The mobile device may return to acquisition mode after a predetermined number of positioning occasions or if the selected beams are no longer valid due to movement or change in conditions.

Method and apparatus for power and processing savings for positioning reference signals transmitted in beams

Positioning for user equipments (UEs) in a wireless network is supported by restricting position reference signal (PRS) configuration parameters for a Transmission Reception Point (TRP) based on PRS configuration used by co-located TRPs. The PRS configuration parameters for the TRP may be restricted by restricting orthogonality of the PRS resources with respect to PRS resources from co-located TRPs to only code division multiplexing, and other types of orthogonality such as time division multiplexing and frequency divisional multiplexing are not permitted for co-located TRPs. The PRS configuration parameters for the TRP may be restricted to the same muting sequence type, e.g., inter-instance and/or intra-instance muting, as used by co-located TRPs. The PRS configuration parameters, e.g., related to orthogonality and/or muting, are not restricted with respect to non-co-located TRPs. The restrictions on the PRS configuration parameters for a TRP may be determined by a central authority, such as a location server.

Positioning reference signal configurations for co-located transmission reception points

Techniques are provided for utilizing notch filters to overcome narrowband jamming. An example method for determining a range to a satellite vehicle with a receiver includes receiving a signal from the satellite vehicle, determining one or more notch filter configurations, determining a pseudorandom noise code and a doppler frequency associated with the signal, determining a codephase correction value based at least on the one or more notch filter configurations, the pseudorandom noise code and the doppler frequency, and computing the range to the satellite vehicle based at least in part on the signal and the codephase correction value.

In one example, a method comprises: receiving assistance data from a location server; classifying a plurality of candidate cells in the assistance data into a first group of candidate cells and a second group of candidate cells, wherein the classification is based on whether a candidate cell transmits position reference signal (PRS) symbols in one or more multimedia broadcast single frequency network (MBSFN) subframes in a positioning occasion, and based on a cyclic prefix (CP) length of the PRS symbols being transmitted by the candidate cell in the positioning occasion; selecting, based on one or more predetermined criteria, one of the first group or the second group of candidate cells to measure the one or more PRS in the positioning occasion; and measuring the one or more PRS from one of the first group or the second group of candidate cells in the positioning occasion to measure PRS measurements.
